LOS ANGELES (AP) - An elderly motorist was killed Wednesday when a large pine tree fell on top of his car on a San Fernando Valley street, the Fire Department said.
The accident occurred as the man drove south on Reseda Boulevard in Tarzana.
The tree trunk crushed the roof of the victim's SUV.
What caused the tree to fall was unknown.
Witness Mel Harrison told KABC-TV he heard a crack and saw the tree coming down.
Lemme guess: The wind.
Blame Bush...his environmental policies hurt the trees.
I would think that 35 inches of rain this season might have something to do with it, but that's a guess.
Gee! In the Valley!
Shocked I am! Let's get the CA. legislature on this!!
Afterall, there is a possibility that a woodpecker was harmed in his pursuit of anti- enviro-MENTAL activity!!
i.e. Actually pecking a tree!!
OH ... The Horror!
too many spotted owls were living in it...
Lousy timing
God pressed the SMITE button.
Reseda and where? I can't picture any trees that close to the road along Reseda down that way.
Tarzana is my home.
The above 4 words are probably 3 more than I should have made public.
It's near the Braemar CC.
Killer Trees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor old guy. There but for the grace of God go I. A huge tree fell on a truck I was driving once. Landed just behind the cab. Tore the whole rear end of the truck off. That's why I hate trees to this day. Don't trust them at all. And to heck with the environmentalists! I'll chop down any damned tree I want if it looks dangerous, permission or no.
ping :)
I think all trees are naturally aggressive, especially in the wild, but even so-called "domesticated" trees like this one can be dangerous. We should create places - we could call them "forests" - where trees could be contained until we need to harvest some for building houses or baseball bats or guitars. That way we could be safe, but still have enough dead trees for useful - and peaceful - purposes.
That is some seriously bad karma.
Thanks for the shot! dang. That was a big fellar too..
What kind of vehicle was it,, SUV or car? Jeep, Cadillac..?
