President Bush weighed in on the Terri Schiavo case Thursday, clearly favoring her continued access to life sustaining procedures.
The Florida woman was slated to be removed Friday from the feeding tubes that have kept her nourished and alive since 1990.
'The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and sustantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life, Bush said.
'Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life where all Americans are valued, welcomed and protected--and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.'
Schiavo suffered severe brain injury in 1990 when her heart stopped. Doctors say she is in a persistent vegetative state.

Is there nothing the President could do?
Executive order was bandied about earlier today...I'd see if Congress can resolve this over the weekend
Of course there is.
He can order Terri's feeding to be continued while her room is under guard, or he can have her removed from her hospital bed and moved to another location secured by a Presidential Order.
There's a lot the Chief Executive can do, he only has to do it.
If she was a convicted murderer on death row, he could commute her sentence and let her walk free---
But, everyone I have listened to says that he would be "overstepping his bounds" if he gets involved.
Whith how they are treating Terri Schiavo, I don't ever want to hear that complaint from the far left again. We have proof now of the identity of the party of death at all stages of a person's life. That is of course, unless the person has committed a murder themselves. Then, they should live - but over all others' lives, the far left judges want dominion. Shameless, disgusting animals.
Sen. Barbara Boxer. A 'profile in cowardice'
Scott Peterson has a better shot at life right now than Terri.
"There's a lot the Chief Executive can do, he only has to do it."
As could Jeb Bush in Florida. I am getting tired of "talking" congressmen and executives that won't back up their talk with muscle.
In my mind, the question now before us is this:
"Do judges rule or do the people through the legislative and executive branches?"
He can do all that by Executive Order?
The terrorists in Gitmo and Iraq are getting better treatment from the left than Terri---
I have heard Levin get all uptight about the possiblity that the terrorists have been "sleep deprived" for 48 hours!!!
I heard him in the Senate last night go on and on how he doesn't agree with stopping her murder---
The hypocrisy is astounding!!
Here some some history from California, the great state of Barbara Boxer:
Along with more precise and specific terminology, the 1913 law also contained references to a "State Lunacy Commission," which was headed by Frederick Winslow Hatch. This commission had existed since 1897, but had not until this time been integrated into a coherent policymaking structure dealing with sterilization. Those suffering from certain mental illnesses could be sterilized on the order of the Lunacy Commission as a condition of release from an institution. In the case of the mentally retarded, or "feeble-minded," who were legally minors, the new law conditioned surgery upon the written consent of parents or guardians.

If Scott Peterson had been as fortunate or smart as Michael Schiavo, he wouldn't be in San Quentin right now.
Peterson was put on death row by the courts for killing his wife, but Schiavo is getting the courts to do it for him.
Exactly! A guy I know said (upon hearing about this) that MS is a "genius" (evil genius, but still) to kill his wife this way.
If that hand job Clinton can free a bunch of criminals, hours before he leaves office, by Executive Order, why doesn't Bush? Tell the libs to bugger off. Its not as if they will suddenly turn against him and fight everything that he tries to do.
Gee! Isn't there a way to allow her to die with dignity??
Life is precious when you can understand it and move around in it, but when it's time, it's time.
