(TEXAS) PEROT TESTIFIES BEFORE HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Buzz By Date

Absorbing, wide ranging conversation on SB4 plus the general state of education

Appearing at a House Public Education Committee hearing this afternoon, Ross Perot, Sr., was due to testify in favor of legislation from Rep. Kent Grusendorf (R-Arlington) on introducing more technology in schools.

However, in an absorbing discussion, Perot also found time to talk about the emerging competitive economies of China and India, ball bearings, I-Pods, the Sears Catalog, and how a baby, when born into the world, has a jumble of disconnected neurons.

Perot said that at one time the United States stood on top of the education world. He said the country was now near the bottom of the industrial world. He said that when it came to math, there were only five countries below the United States, and only three nations were worse at problem solving. "The good news, I guess, is there is no place to go but up. We just need to get busy and work on it," Perot said.

Perot said one of the best things the state could do is pass a law stopping the suppliers of products purchased by schools from giving campaign contributions to the members of school boards or the State Board of Education.

Perot pissed me off when he dropped out of the race after his daughters wedding craziness. I was a big Perot fan. I had all his books. I sent them all to his house (fed-x)with a less than warm and fuzzy note about being a limp-wristed quitter.

But I still love Perot when he's on a roll. He's like John Belushi in the "going get's tuff" speech in Animal house.

YA-SEE-CHEER? Can we tawk? Can we tawk? A big pimple on yer forehead isn't a labador retriever after doing it's business on a hot summer day! DO-YOU-KNOW-WHAT-I-MEAN!??? DO YA??

Well, if he does manage to improve the educational system, it wouldn't be so bad, I guess.

No real comment on what Perot said, but in case anyone cares, my grandfather was a very close friend of his and his health care advisor.

I know people like to blame him for Clinton, but he really is a nice man. When my grandfather died, he sent his number 2 guy to visit our family. The only reason he personally didn't come was it was just a few months before the election.

I doubt it, in 2000 and 2004 he endorsed Bush.

I'm thinking he's come over to the right side now.

Thanks AV.

Wasn't No Pass, No Play, that helped defeat Gov. Mark White, Perot's idea?
