Today, the liberal media elite in Ohio (Columbus Disgrace, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and Dayton Daily News) all had their holy art thou attitude on again about open records in government. These media are up on a pedestal trying to portray themselves as some watchdog of government. While I agree on the open records stuff in principle, I QUESTION THE MOTIVES OF THESE NEWSPAPERS. These are the same newspapers that want to publish the names on concealed-carry permit holders in Ohio. I believe the Cleveland Plain Dealer has done so, along with a TV station in Toledo. An individual has a right to obtain open records in government. However, I do not trust the liberal elite media in this state and their actions on this subject.
This same issue was front page on the Salem Oregon paper. Buying this paper is like contributing to the Dem party.
goodie. now I can see the copy of Kerry's military stuff that he doesn't want us to see.
Same campaign in various papers in Michigan too. Gee, you think it's a coordinated effort or something?
It will be about as successful as their coordinated effort last year to defeat President Bush.
Are these the same liberals that insisted on opening sealed divorce documents against the Republican candidate for Senator in Illinois last year---and that caused him to pull out of the race?
Oh, yeah, those kinds of open records that those same liberal media types cry "can't reveal a source" whenever you question THEIR information---
Journalists think rules are for others, not themselves. They are entitled to total and complete secrecy, lies without consequences, and "news" without facts. Their First Amendment rights are absolute and sweeping. Ours can be regulated, especially as they apply to political debate.
Open records are fine so long as they don't include Traitor John Kerry's military records, Willie's medical records or Screaming Deanie's Vermont governer's records! Those have to be kept secret along with lots of other crooked dem stuff!
They have run the same series of articles for the last 2 or 3 weeks in our little Jessamine Journal here in Nicholasville, Ky. Somthing's going on.
Had the same thing in the Sunday Oklahoman and you can't find a much more conservative newspaper than that. There were several articles about local politicians conducting business and meetings in violation of the state's Open Records Act. The whole point of the articles was that these sunshine laws are necessary for the public to keep tabs on how politicians spend the public's money. It makes the politicians more accountable.
This may be Sunshine Week, but these Ohio liberal media elite papers have been on this high-horse for a while.
My big problem with them has been the conceal carry permit license holders in this state having their names printed in the Cleveland Plain Dealer or on the website of a Toledo TV station. These newspapers pushed for this provision in the bill and our RINO governor put it in their to appease them.
Whoever brought up the divorce records is exactly on point. Those records probably need to be sealed.
I believe in open records. If I went to request open records, I do not mind having to give my name.
I do not trust the liberal media elite in the state with their hidden agendas trying to have every little thing open under the sun for everyone to see. There are some things in life worth knowing (reports, meeting minutes, etc.) There are some things in life that are not any of our damn business (conceal carry records, divorce case records, etc.)
