She's an airhead. A lower level Scientology type would be much more fun to bat it back and forth with. That's the kind of meet up I thought you were alluding to.

oh I've been to weddings and such like, where they surround us and pour on the new agisms. My wife is a lawyer and the few fights we've had is over some of her clients. I am totally against them. the only reason I would go now, is to witness to them. I guess they will show me the door, fast enough

No need to apologize to me!

The important thing to understand about cults in general, and Scientology in particular, is that each has some level of practices that produce immediate relief of what is bothering the neophyte.

The lower levels of Scientology are cobbled together from a whole series of things that produce desirable results. Anything from relief of chronic pain to improved ability to communicate. They are quite good at fixing a person's individual ruin.

Unfortunately Scientology does work. People go in with their lives stuck in past upsets or current problems, and 'The Tech' provides tools to handle them.

Feeling better and actually doing better in life are powerful incentives for wanting more.

Your major life's problems were fixed early on, and you spend more and more time, effort, and money on spiritual hangnails.

The 'more' comes at a subtle price, the initial gains may or may not last (in Scientology they tend to be more permanent, as they usually come from getting a better tool set to handle problems, rather than just being 'given a fish'), but further progress requires just a little bit more of your own self determinism, for just a little less progress.

You're in a system that your own experience tells you that it works. Early on, you're told not to take anything as an article of faith, but to try it out and see if/how well it works.

Low and behold the techniques do work, although you recognize that the explanation of the underlying mechanism may not be fully accurate, it does work.

Doing it the way Source [Hubbard] wrote it becomes second nature. At some point things don't work as well, and this is explained away as your not fully understanding the materials, never as the materials are erroneous.

People start accepting explanations that are a little off as their own error, silly explanations as examples of LRH's humor, etc.

In other words, It's a bit like talking to a LaRouche, it starts off reasonable, then segues into the Twilight Zone...

...it's been a standing invitation

No chairs, eh? In that BIG house?

Go, just don't bring anything to eat except the meat of Scripture.

And stay on the first floor by an open window, lest your getaway requires agility and quick thinking.

Not having spent any significant time on staff, I don't have the background to comment on that, except to say that it sounds VERY plausible.

Yes. As an aside, my friends want to take me to a party at Kirstie's house. Should I go?

By all means!

I'll take my bible
