Science magazine (5 Sep 1980) reported the following radioactive releases in the 1980 eruption:

Radon daughters (Pb-214, Bi-214, Pu-214) were found in the ash at levels similar to those of uranium tailings material. It is probable that the decay of Radon 222 gas resulted in these daughters and that approximately three (3) million curies of radon gas were in the plume. (where oh where is the National Resources Defense Council or the Sierra Clubbers when we need them??)

Other radionuclides ejected in the cloud were:
K-40 61,000 Curies
Ra-226 3,200 Curies
Th-232 680 Curies

A total of 540 million tons of ash were ejected into the atmosphere. Compare this to what the eco-nazis are suing companies and utilities to remove from power plants AS WE SPEAK and you can begin to comprehend the utter megalomania of this human hating crowd.

My original response to Petronski wasn't intended to evoke scientific controversy, it was merely a reference to the picture of Dr. Evil he posted with the "red hot frickin lava" quote and said Dr. Evil's use of the word magma rather than lava

Bttt. There have been six quakes on the mountain >3 in the last 36 hours or so. While not necessarily showing anything is imminent, it is a noticable increase and change of activity. A number of the quakes have been in the ~ 1KM subsurface range, which is where they were occurring last Sept. before the October events.

Those were certainly more rowdy and more of a free-for-all days in the beginning.

But some of them were sooooooo irrationally assaultive at the drop of a hat--accusing one of all manner of things just based on their opinions.

I mostly don't miss them that much.

Most of them seemed to keep a target in the middle of my forehead or butt virtually all the time regardless of how carefully I posted. Of course, I tended to post on topics they were hostile to generally speaking.
