Sadly, only a true, hopeless geek would catch that and find that milestone more interesting than that 1000th post.

Or a real geek might note the milestone as 400 or 2000 or 10000000000... and also be correct.

If you wish to create another test - this time try starting out with a compressed file.

You claim loss of data occurs during conversion between two compressed formats -- don't try to weasel-out, that is your claim. Such conversion occurs during this test. If your theory is correct, the final file should NOT be the same as the original file due to loss of data during conversion.

  1. Start with a WAV, 53,107,244 bytes
  2. Convert that into Liquid Audio (a lossless compression)
  3. Convert that into Monkey's Audio (another lossless compression)
  4. Convert that into FLAC (another lossless compression)
  5. Convert that into WAV
There, I didn't do just one convert, I converted between compressed audio formats twice. Size of final WAV: 53,107,244 bytes. A comp between the first and resulting WAVs: "File compare OK"!

I ran this sucker through three different lossless compression formats, and there was still no loss of audio quality, the audio being exactly the same.

That's it. You've lost. Admit it, the evidence is right there in front of you. In honor of your loss, the audio track I used was Mozart's Introitus Requiem.

Do NOT screw with me on audio, video and graphics. I've done it for far too long for some pissant to challenge me on what is basic knowledge for anyone in the field.

The data is stored as a description of discrete square wave steps

I've always wondered why we chopped up analog sound instead of simply reproducing the analog signal digitally. IOW, instead of taking time/frequency samples, calculate the mathematical formulae for the sine waves. It's probably because that would take more computing power than we had back then.

I have just been asking you to provide supporting evidence for this claim other than your personal opinion.

BTW, where's your evidence that it DOES degrade it?

Do you hear crickets?

I at least expected some more denial. Oh well, looks like this one's over.
