First, the chimp they had raised was NOT part of the episode.
Second, we all treat our animal-cohort with too little thought of the real differences between us. (as in, your cat has not eaten you only because you are too big to chew)
Third, in defense of St James Davis, and if I have the same St James Davis in mind - pretty likely given the frequency of that name; he is an eccentric and wealthy person who has to my knowledge caused no harm and once campaigned the worlds slowest stock cars around So Cal tracks.

Pray for his recovery and mourn the fact that there are so few nonthreatening eccentric people in our midst that we must be satisfied with the bizarros who find their way into education, politics, and media.

Hear. Hear.

Americans cannot do 'eccentric' as well as the Brits. It is an art, apparently. Somethings, we simply do not do as well.

Perhaps, but maybe he told the others about these strange aliens that take you away from your home. Or maybe what Jacko did to a relative of his.

My cat has not eaten me because I finally had the balls to take the stinking ungrateful thing to someone who already was cursed with a houseful of cats. I got a nice new ceramic tile floor our of the deal instead of the ruined carpet. I did not eat my cat because I am civilized.

I can feel horrified and sorry for this misguided couple and at the same time not deliberatly ignore facts.

The animal they were visiting had in fact been involved in harming a human before. They were not ignorant of the nature of chimpanzees but chose to ignore it. They had wanted to bring back to their home the pet they had been forced to give up. If they had somehow had this animal in their home it could have escaped and harmed or killed other people.

I feel badly for them, but I think they were more than very foolish and evidently had little regard for the welfare of people over animals.

Holy crappola. I'm looking at 2 well-fed condo cats, who are very affectionate. Does that mean they're 1-2 steps away from carnivorism? Yikes! I've heard this, and pondered this, once before. Double yikes.

If the Davis's are wealthy, they sure don't show it by the house they live in, although they did get a $100,000 settlement from the city a few years ago. Probably the money goes to house Moe.

They are certainly eccentric, though. They raised Moe like the child they never had. When he was young, they took him around the city to schools, etc., but then there were two incidents in recent years, one was the finger-biting and he also attacked a cop. The cop was injured, but not too badly.

They live on a busy street here in my town, and their entire front yard is taken up with signs like "free Moe" etc. St. James used to sit for hours on end in an old beat-up chair in his front yard trying to get people to sign his petition to allow Moe back into the city. I never quite understood why they didn't just move so they could be closer to Moe if that's what they really wanted.

The whole affair cost our city a bundle of money in legal fees, that's for sure.
