Pakistan: Christian jailed for insulting Koran

The Sharia is not in force anywhere except Saudi Arabia and Iran, you'll hear. Christians enjoy rights equal to those of Muslims in other Muslim countries, you'll hear. Then why are there so many stories like this one?

From the Post.ie, with thanks to Nicolei:

A Pakistani court has convicted and sentenced a Christian man to seven years in prison for insulting Islam’s holy book, the Koran, as he practiced magic, police said today.

A court delivered the ruling on Monday against Bashir Masih, 35, in the town of Chistian, about 90 miles northeast of Multan, a major city in eastern Punjab province, said Haji Nazir Ahmed, a local police official.

Masih was arrested in August last year in the cotton-growing village of Chak 109 Fateh after a Muslim man complained to police that Masih was insulting the Koran by putting his legs on the holy book while he lay in bed at home, Ahmed said.

Ahmed said that after his arrest Masih told police he would place the Koran on his feet and tear out pages from the holy book on which he would write magic spells to put inside amulets that he’d give to fellow Christians.

This doesn't sound to me like anything anyone with the brains God gave a hamster would admit to doing in Pakistan, no matter what the actual facts of the case. This sounds to me more likely to be just another example of the way Christians are victimized by the blasphemy laws, which are so easy for Muslims to use against Christians they for some reason don't like or want around.

Masih was sentenced under Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and moved to a jail in the nearby town of Bhawalnagar. He can appeal the sentence....

Under the blasphemy laws, anyone who insults the Koran, Islam or its prophet Muhammad can be punished by death. Throwing the holy book on the ground, touching it with feet or saying derogatory things about it are deemed insulting.

Human rights groups have demanded that the blasphemy laws be abolished. Christian groups allege persecution under the legislation.

The religion of peace strikes again. At least they didn't cut his head off. Given their blood lust, he's fortunate he's alive.

More likely story :

After he arrested Masih, Ahmed told Masih to say that he "would place the Koran on his feet and tear out pages from the holy book on which he would write magic spells to put inside amulets that he’d give to fellow Christians" or else Ahmed would see to it that Masih's family was killed. When Masih, most likely under torture, read the obviously non-Christian quote Ahmed had manufactured for him, Masih was sentenced to seven years in prison.

It's not an insult to line a litter box with shredded pages from the Koran, is it? My cat, Mohammed...she's a girl cat...prefers the Koran. I figured it had to do with her name...and the fact that the Koran is vy absorbant.

And here's a picture of Mohammed using the Koran now...looks like it's time to change the Koran again...

The headline says "Christian jailed for insulting Koran and then the body says this happened in "Chistian." Is this town's real name Christian and not Chistian which would make even atheists "Christians" when used to describe a resident from there?

There is a city named Chistian in Pakistan. And the guy as described clearly was not a Christian. I am leaning towards thinking that all of the uses of "Christian" in this story should be corrected to read "Chistian."

Why would anyone want to insult the Koran? It makes a handy wedge for unstable furniture. And if it's too thick, tear out a few pages. They can be used to replace toilet paper if the need arises.

" They can be used to replace toilet paper if the need arises. "

I wouldn't put that vile filth anywhere near my butt.

This is nothing new in Pakistan. Christians are victimised constantly using these "laws". The abserdity of this "court" in this particular case shows just how backwards these Islamic cultists are. Magic spells? LMAO.

As far as the Koran goes, it's nothing but filth, how can anyone with a sound mind avoid "insulting" it? By that logic, all those who follow the koran are an insult to humanity and should be jailed. Friday after the Mosk gathering is a dangerous time for a Christian or Hindu to be on the street you will hear. That cult really needs to be banned. until then, this stuff wil aways continue, Crazy muslims will always be blowing up things and terrorizing everywhere in the world.

Thanks for posting this USF.

Something about the story doesn't sound quite right.

It is interesting though to read about their blasphemy laws and how Christians are treated in Muslim countries.

What is it about the koran that prohibits it from being questioned, scrutinized or criticized? If it is truth and inspired as those that follow it claim, then shouldn't it be able to handle scrutiny?

Just wondering...

The Holy Bible says:

"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."

They shouldnt sentence him to jail. They should kill him. Then maybe the rest of the non-muslim fools will realize that Islam is at war with us. They arent doing anything wrong, they are fighting the war.

LOL... If it were the truth, and the actual words of god as revealed to Muhammed as they claim, then yes, it should stand up to scrutiny and critque. So one has to question their motivations for not allowing that.

Oh well.. there's always great ex-Muslims like Ali Sina and Ibn Warraq that have come to their senses after taking a good look at the Quran and questioning it, and have written in depth of all the nonsense, contradictions and inaccuracies within it.

Allah should have hired them as proof readers. ;o)
