Liberal Lunatic of the Day (2/23/2005)
Liberal Lunacy ^ | 2/23/2005 | Beckwith

Posted on 02/23/2005 4:38:16 AM PST by Beckwith

William A. Cook, professor of English at the University of La Verne in southern California, asks the question, "What fuels slavery, ethnic cleansing, land theft, and genocide? What enables a mind to justify imprisoning another without cause, without trial, without rights of due process and assumption of innocence until proven guilty? What enables a soul to accept dominance over another, to degrade and humiliate other humans, to participate in or acquiesce to genocide?"

Cook then knocks down his straw man in rambling prose, "I'll posit two trends of thought that seem to reside at the root of Western culture, trends that swirl like infected eddies beneath the surface of our ideals allowing for slavery, ethnic erasure of populations, land theft and genocide. The first blossoms when men, driven by a commitment to an ideology they accept as absolute, as those who zealously and fanatically proclaim they alone know God's word, rise to power and force their beliefs on others, knowing in their hearts that they are chosen to lead because of their innate superiority, men like Ferdinand, the King of Spain, Columbus and the Pope who guide their legions of friars and conquistadors to impose their divinely ordained right on others. The second follows from the first, when men, who accept unquestioningly their superiority over others deemed by them to be sub-human or inferior in intellect or will, move to positions of power not driven by an ideology, but willingly use those so possessed, to impose their covetous desire to acquire land, natural resources, or labor regardless of the consequences."

Then Cook plunges of the deep end with gusto as he writes, "Now, this most Christian of nations (US of A) brings God's gift to the nations of the world judging them fit to join the "advanced, civilized, and developed" nations of the West if they adopt willingly or by force America's form of Democracy, a form dominated by Corporate power and control, where "advanced and developed" means in reality new markets for Capitalistism and new resources to fuel its continued growth. Strange how the "bread of heaven" has metamorphized into a euphemistic "freedom" for all if they become cooperative consumers for extended Christian Capitalism. Both trends that give rise to genocide swirl beneath the rhetoric of "freedom and liberty," a virtual whirlpool of Zionist Christian fanaticism and neo-con covetousness for land and resources, and will erupt in a tsunami of devastation for those who oppose the will of this administration."

His conclusion reveals deep anti-American and anti-Judeo-Christian beliefs.  "Genocides and holocausts arise out of unchecked zeal, unquestioned duty, and silent acquiescence. They are fueled by blind belief, personal fear, and a sense of superiority that gives license to slaughter. Both the United States under Bush and its clone under Sharon exemplify the presence of racism resulting in genocidal devastation as they impose their respective wills on Iraqis and Palestinians."

So it's the Americans, particularly George W. Bush, and the Jews that are at the core of all the evil in the world. Whew! Where do these guys get these crackpot notions in the first place? Then they always wrap up these loony ideas in the most outrageous hyperbole.

I truly believe that Cook's students are are not getting the education they are paying for, but instead, the most outrageous left-wing propaganda. A professor, such as Cook, is far more dangerous than a Ward Churchill, because he is operating under the radar from the safety of his ivory tower and the evil cloak of tenure.

Postscript ~ You would think an English professor would use his spell checker.  Search the original rant for "uitlized", "faithful's's", "Capitalistism", "metamorphized" and "indominable".  Also has a problem with sentence structure, "looseWhile".  Doesn't speak well for this English Ph. D., does it?  He obviously spends too time hating and lecturing outside of his discipline, instead of honing his skills.  And what the hell is the "University of La Verne"?  Is there a "University of Shirley" out there in La-La-Land, as well?

Typical of what these ivory tower moonbats want. Socialism for all so that they can become the intelligencia via the Marxist ideals that they espouse. The "educated ones" were given everything in the former USSR and THAT meal ticket is what these dingbats want here.

Saddam Hussein killed more Muslims than US and Israeli forces combined by many fold. The US and Israel did it for self-interest to be sure as self-preservation is indeed "Self-interest." The by-products are better lives for the the Muslims then their own leaders wanted for or gave to them.
Of course, Saddam Hussein killed most of his victims for Sport.

Didn't Saddam do all of these things? This guy is an idiot. Any tuition money that went for his class may as well have been flushed down the toilet.

Thanks for that post.

If William A. Cook was teaching at the University of Kentucky we could label him W.A.C.K.Y.

Lunatic will do. I vote for him as Lunatic Liberal of the Week.

...men like Ferdinand, the King of Spain, Columbus and the Pope who guide their legions of friars and conquistadors to impose their divinely ordained right on others...

What a hoot! I would be truly embarrassed to write something this moronic. Columbus was looking for what Europeans had been seeking for centuries -- a water route to China, so traders (proto-capitalists) wouldn't lose half their profits to thieves and natural depradation. I hardly think Columbus, or those who financed him, expected to conquer China or enslave anyone. How could anyone know there lay in between a marvelous land, and land which had never known war, genocide, slavery or human sacrifice because it was untouched by Western religious fanaticism.

And I feel compelled also to express my complete surprize that Pol Pot, Stalin, and Hilter's Nazi cabal were all -- (you guessed it) -- Christians!

Paraphrasing the good Doctor's words, we soon come to his trickery...

Q: "What enables a mind to [NOT] justify imprisoning another without cause, without trial, without rights of due process and assumption of innocence until proven guilty?"

A: The Judeo-Christian culture embedded in the United States of America. You know, the one's you wish to undermine and destroy through dilution, deceit and duplicity.

Western culture is to blame? Can Cook name another culture that's developed the openess, the love of freedom, the tolerance, and the diversity of opinion and artistic expression that Western culture has?

Needless to say, tenured Marxist professors "driven by a commitment to an ideology they accept as absolute, know in their hearts that they are chosen to lead because of their innate superiority."
