A series of diplomatic contacts are scheduled this week to help relieve the North Korean nuclear issue.

Sources say South Korea plans to send its top nuclear negotiator, Deputy Foreign Minister Song Min-soon, to Beijing this week to ask China to use more of its influence over North Korea in getting Pyongyang back to the negotiating table. China, in turn, is expected to dispatch a high-level communist party official, Wang Jiarui, to North Korea as early as this weekend.

In the meantime, South Korea, the U.S. and Japan are reportedly pushing to open a 6-way consultative meeting also comprising North Korea, China and Russia. Sources say that meeting, if it takes place, will try to assess a detailed picture of North Korea's status after it declared possession of nuclear arms.

At present, Seoul, Washington and Tokyo reportedly remain doubtful about the authenticity of North Korea's nuclear claim. Rather, they believe the sabre-rattling was intended to give more leverage in future negotiations.

Just give Japan nukes. We're not going to get anything resolved anyway and it would be suicide for North Korea to attack. Plus Japan needs to have them for China and they should have them if they want to get on the UN security council.

Japan will never accept nukes.

I would be political suicide for any Japanese politican who suggested it.

Your suggestion is moot.
