The House of Representatives could beat Bush to the finish line. Georgia Republican Congressman John Linder, who champions a national sales tax, tells Barron's that the House Ways and Means Committee may schedule hearings on tax reform as early as March. Linder, who has been discussing his plan with his party's congressional leaders, expects the full House to have a menu of options to act upon by August. He thinks the House will move on tax reform before it moves on Social Security reform because tax reform could alleviate the retirement system's funding problems by raising more money. His sales tax, for example, would capture money from people who dodge the current tax system. The Senate leadership on the other hand, is holding its cards close to the vest. It may well be that the Senate prefers to let Bush take the lead in the tax tango.

The Barron's report requires subscription, but I think the report of Congressman Linder's outlook for House hearings and action is worthy of notice.
I just hope the RINOs don't jack with it, as they did GWBs tax cut package two years ago. Recall his intention to ABOLISH capital gains/dividend taxes completely. Just think where GDP would be had GWB been successful! The accursed RINOs are as evil as the Dims.
If you would like to be added to this ping list let me know.
John Linder in the House(HR25) & Saxby Chambliss Senate(S25), offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and SS/Medicare payroll taxes outright, and provide a IRS free replacement in the form of a retail sales tax:
H.R.25,S.25
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.Refer for additional information:
It wasn't much. 8-)
If true, this is the best news I've heard in a long time.
Who says hard work and perseverance doesn't pay off?
LOL, not even I figure much will happen on taxreform per-se in this session of Congress. But hey, I'm sure not going to gripe if they surprise me.
Now if we could just further discredit the leftist media in this country between now and August, this should be smooth sailing for the most part.
Who says hard work and perseverance doesn't pay off?
I suspect it helps, just a little bit, to have Hastert & DeLay in the boat, and Linder on House Way & Means, too ;O)
Ya really think so?? Who'd a thunk it? LOL! ;>)
Thanks for posting that.
Let's hear it for the Geeze!
Somebody needs to download this article and send it everybody with a pulse.
"The more opportunities to counteract the marketing of the AFT with the truth."
To borrow a good line from Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men": "You can't HANDLE the truth!"
LOL

Congressman Linder was on CNBC "Squawk Box" this morning. Mark Haynes (sp?) was clueless. I hope that we will be seeing more of Congressman Linder in the media in coming months. They may at last be paying attention.
