SUTTER, Calif. (AP) - The only grade school in this rural town is requiring students to wear radio frequency identification badges that can track their every move. Some parents are outraged, fearing it will take away their children's privacy.

Last I knew, grade-schoolers weren't entitled to any privacy. Given the sorry state of California schools, though, I'm not surprised that a police state tactic is the route they're choosing.
How is this different from a teacher taking attendence. Only this way it is more accurate.

I'm not a Big Brother fan, but how much privacy does a grade-schooler need? I'd rather be able to track him down if some maniac grabbed him. As a new father (my son is 2 months old)I could not imagine what I would do if he got snatched. Even if we got him back, I would most likely go to jail because I would kill the guy with my bare hands. No question.

Because with the RFID chip your children can't hide from perverts in the school.

Why not just implant the chip in these children? How about your employer place a chip on or in you or your spouse?

Last time I checked, manually taking attendance didn't cost one extra penny. These certainly will if implemented. Of course, this school is getting a kickback for it so what the hell do they care?
Placing a RFID chip on YOUR child should be YOUR decision, not the decision of some sub-government agency?
Why aren't these grade school children already under constant adult supervision?
A long time ago...only reason I'm still here is finances. I'm not too thrilled with Arnie, either. Hard to believe Ronald Reagan once held the Governership here.
Taking attendance was worked quite well in every school I ever attended. There is no question of accuracy - if a student is in their seat when the bell rings, mark them present. Otherwise, they're absent. It doesn't take more than a minute or two, and such a process should be well within the mental capabilities of a trained monkey, much less a teacher.
So now that we've gotten this idea of "accuracy" out of the picture, it comes down to cost. Taking attendance manually is a heck of a lot easier and cheaper than getting young children to wear (and keep on) an RFID tag!
I don't disagree. I've thought about it. My dog has a microchip, and I certainly don't value her more than my son..
There are many beautiful cities in California. A lot of red counties where it would be a great place to live.
