audiocassette tapes with racially charged language and explicit lyrics

That describes 90 percent of the (c)rap "music" published today. Why did this make the newspapers?

Oops: need context:

A parade-goer whose 13-year-old son showed him a tape a krewe member allegedly handed him complained to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, chapter president Jerome Boykin said.

Actually after some thought, the kid probably got the tape on his own or from a friend, and and when dad caught him, he blamed the people at Mardt Gras.

Why do people take their kids to this parade? Isn't this an adult event?

Mardi Gras parades are usually family events. They are lots of fun with bands, horses, floats throwing beads etc. The parades go through residential neighborhoods all over the city and South Louisiana and are definitely family oriented. The wild party in the French Quarter is a different story.

Not sure why they filed from Houma if it happened on the Westbank. Houma's a good shot away.
