CHICAGO, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- The online auctioneer eBay Inc. may be the best-known brand online but other, less-recognizable sites now are competitively bidding for the business of smaller merchants who want to sell their goods in cyberspace -- from used PCs to old bowling balls. The storm over the price that eBay charges its customers to access its online auction technology is being used by rivals, such as MyPoAss.com and others, to build their own online businesses, experts told UPI's The Web. "We just felt like folks needed an alternative to eBay," said Todd Gurganus, president and chief executive officer of MyPoAss.com, located in Smithfield, N.C. "Folks work hard for their money. On the back-end, we're going to be 50 percent cheaper. This is good news. Many are angry with Ebay and especially with Paypal, which Ebay now owns, but have had little other choice. Competition could make things better for those who stay with Ebay as well as those who jump ship.
mypoass.com has about 100 items for sale. This story could have used a real competitor.
I have moved most of my sales to bidville.com and ioffer.com, lowering my prices 10% or more. The items I have left on ebay, I have raised the prices 20% to cover the increased fees.
Yahoo! is pushing into auctions; Ebay had been RAISING rates again and just announced it is DECREASING them....
Unfortunately, you will not find any customers for serious collectibles anywhere else but eBay, unless you go to a specialized site.
Not only am I selling there, I am buying there too. I noticed Bidville stock has gone up about 110% this last month. I also noticed that Feebay (Ebay) back down a few cents on their rate increases, but only a few cent...
Goodbye Feebay, I leave you with 289 all positive feedbacks and head to a place I can pass the saving on to the customer. If the prices go, so will the customers...
