On the Baltimore Sun mb, someone suggested Joe Namath as overrated because of SB III (sour grapes maybe?). Someone else on that thread suggested Bradshaw as overrated.
Well, on this Super Sunday, I thought I'd start a thread for those in the know about overrated/underrated pro QBs past and present, what with two QBs entering Canton yesterday. I'm not necessarily in the know (I work) so I won't be chiming in too much if at all. Anyway, fire away!

Don't anybody say McNabb, or you'll be accused of racism!
ESPN did a piece on overrated players a while ago and they had Joe Namath at the top of the list. I wasn't born until after Namath's career ended but every person I've talked to who did see him play said he was a great passer.
find me another QB who has tossed 30+ TDs and less than 10 INTs in a season. or another QB who has won as many games in their first 5 years with such mediocre receivers. or more than a handful who have won more games in their first 5 years AT ALL.
if you think McNabb is overrated, you're not NECESSARILY a racist; you COULD just be an idiot.
Ryan Leaf fan club meets in the basement of ACLU every February 29th
Nah. You'd just be stupid.
I've heard the same. while the guarantee was a bit overblown, he personifies the true acceptance of the AFL as an equal, and that event shaped the league as we know it today. not many other players can say they had such an impact.
McNabb is taking his team to the Big Dance while all but one other quarterback will be watching him on TV. He can't be too overrated.
Just an Opinion, but I am wearing my body armor incase any flak comes this way.
He was a big draft bust but I don't think anyone with a brain rates him highly today.
One of the most underrated for the last two years has to be Trent Green of Kansas City. If we had any kind of defense we might be in Jacksonville instead of New England.
It seems to me the Jet defense doesn't get nearly the credit they deserve for winning that game over Baltimore.
I don't think McNabb is over rated at all....then again I'm from Philly. Go Eagles!
That's going to depend if this year was the real Leaf or just an aberration.
If he hadn't gotten hurt before the 1999 season he might have lead the Rams to the Super Bowl that year and we never would have the pleasure of getting to know Kurt Warner's wife.
Peyton Manning is definitely overrated and will continue to be until he shows he can win the big games.
His brother Eli (who took Warner's job) is absolutely overrated but it is still too soon to tell, he might be great someday.
Roethlisberger of the Steelers - Overrated. C'mon, this guy was practically put in the Hall of Fame this year. He showed in the playoffs he is just a rookie and time will tell whether he is equal to the hype. But for now, he's overrated big-time.
Chad Pennington of the Jets - Overrated. The guy just can't stop getting hurt and has yet to win a big game (lucky to win that playoff game against Pittsburgh).
Tom Brady of the Patriots - Underrated. Brady doesn't have the "flash" of the hyped-up marquee quarterbacks mentioned earlier but all he does is win, win, win.
Matt Hasselbeck of Seattle is definitely underrated. This guy is good and showed much poise in the playoffs.
As for quarterbacks that are just plain awful and should consider hanging up their cleats...Drew Bledsoe, for starters.
Did he do something last year I wasn't aware of?
Hasselbeck would love to have receivers that can actually catch the ball.
I had season tickets in Boston in the mid '60s and will go to Jets games early just to see Joe Willy warm up. He could throw 25 yard bullets just by his wrist action. He was virtualy immobile in the pocket but he could release the ball in a nanosecond. Because of that he got his knees racked up for a shortned career.
