Even in death, Ronald Reagan can't catch a break in Minnesota.
A resolution honoring the former Republican president's birthday caused partisan friction in the state Senate Thursday and passed only after it was retooled to mention the fact he never won Minnesota and tax increases that occurred under his watch.
The Democratic-controlled Senate spent more than 30 minutes debating the Republican-offered resolution, which recognizes Reagan's Feb. 6 birthday. Reagan died in June of complications from Alzheimer's disease at age 93.
Minnesota was the lone state not in Reagan's column in the 1984 election. It went for Democrat Walter Mondale, a native son.
Democrats criticized the original resolution as ideologically skewed. It said, among other things, that Reagan ``worked in a bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to government which led to an unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans.''
The revised version ends that sentence with ``not paralleled until the Clinton presidency,'' a nod to the two-term Democratic president. Democrats also added lines about tax increases under Reagan and hold up his presidency as ``a lesson to the current administration in the areas of bipartisanship, economic recovery, and the need for world support in foreign initiatives.''

It's OK...I'm still celebrating Wellstone's departure.
Ping.
That is ridiculous. I guess from now on when we pay tribute to FDR we should mention court-stacking, executing German spies, devloping the nuclear bomb that killed tens of thousands (not a bad thing to me, but to them) and internment.
I think the next time JFK is honored in Minn. they just have to mention he started the Vietnam war and that he was shot while on a thinly-veiled campaign tour!
I DEMAND A RECOUNT!!!
-good times, G.J.P.(Jr.)
The perfect way to win voters over....be as a big a bunch of d***heads as you can possibly be. LOL
Fixed!
:)
DANG. When are we going to have the "Clintoon's Oral Sexarama Day?"
It's not surprising that he continues to do so, even after he has departed from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Just out of curiousity, I thought the Republicans controlled the senate.....
Perhaps they were referring to the Minnesota State Senate??
Yes!
They've got a good "head" start.
Thank you. I missed that.
BTW in the last 3 weeks of the campaign it was obvious that RR had it all locked up. Michael Reagan & Marueen were out on the campaign trail & called their dad asking to go to Minn. to ensure a victory there. RR told them no. His rational was NOT to rub it in so hard. That was Compassionate Conservativism. God bless this man over & over.
One more trip to Duluth...
:)
Seriously though, I understand your point.
The "Gipper" was one of the most magnanimous statesman-both in victory and defeat-that this country has ever seen.
From AP - Minnesota officials warned that air in the Twin Cities was unhealthy for anyone Wednesday.
I think I know where the source of that bad air originates. It emanates from the orifices of the democrats in the legislature.
LOL!
