NEW YORK (AP) -- City health officials are investigating the death of a baby boy who was one of three infants to contract herpes after a rabbi circumcised them. Ten days after Rabbi Yitzhok Fischer performed religious circumcisions on twins last October, one died of herpes and the other tested positive for the virus, according to complaint filed by the health department in Manhattan Supreme Court. The complaint, reported in Wednesday's edition of the New York Daily News, also said health officials later found a third baby who had contracted herpes after being circumcised by Fischer in late 2003. Under Jewish law, a mohel -- someone who performs circumcisions -- draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth. Fischer's lawyer, Mark Kurzmann, told the Daily News that Fischer was cooperating with the investigation, although it's unclear whether Fischer submitted to the city's request for a blood test. "My client is known internationally as a caring, skilled, and conscientious mohel," Kurzmann said.

Martin was in Children's Hospital awaiting an operation. He was sharing a room with another boy who was also waiting for an operation. The boy turned to Martin and said, "What operation are you having?"
Martin responded, "I'm here to have my tonsils removed."
"That's a great operation. I had mine out a year ago. They let you play computer games. They give you all the ginger ale and ice cream you want. They treat you like a King."
Martin looked at his companion and asked, "What operation are you having?" The boy looked at Martin and said, "I'm here for a circumcision."
Martin paused for a moment and then said, "Gosh, that's too bad. That's a terrible operation. I was circumcised the first week I was born and I didn't walk for a year!"

A mohl's chewing gum is always suspect, too.
Just recently, one of the Law & Order shows was about twins...now teenagers..both born boys, but one had a problem during circumcision, so the removed everthying..made him a female..hormone treatments..I'd never heard of anything like that before..
Now thats disgusting...not to mention a bit perverted in this day and age. I would never let a grown man put his mouth on my sons privates to suck blood. YUK!
What does Circumcism actually do? There's been some debate over whether or not it is beneficial. Some critics equate it to mutilation.
I believe the practice (non Jewish) in the US was started only 100 years ago.

Apparently Michael Jackson uses the same practice.
It removes the foreskin.
There are lots and lots of studies that show circumcision helps prevent STD's and other infections.
Plus it prevents unfortunate zipper incidents and certain odors.
I am in favor of it; but then again I'm an (ethnic) Jew.
Circumscision has become un-PC --- so there are now many LSM attempts to scare people --- like with this butcher and the above-mention Law&Order episode.

If the, er, tip isn't cleaned fanatically it builds up sebaceous secretions and gets infected.
Circumcision helps keep that to a minimum.
And I've run across women who think it is mutilation and or desecration.

If the guy doesn't keep it clean later on in life, his sex partener (if female) can expect to have quite a few yeast infections 'beyond imagination'.
It is supposed to be more sanitary.
