[India News]: Bangalore, Jan 21 : American evangelist Benny Hinn Friday evening began his much-awaited "Festival of Blessings" prayer meeting here, which saw a shutdown call and incidents of stone throwing by protesting Hindu activists earlier in the day.
About 8,000-10,000 policemen have been deployed in and around the sprawling venue to regulate crowds.
Organisers of the show, being held at the Jakkur airstrip on the outskirts of the city, said earlier that about 400,000 people had already gathered for the event from all parts of the country, especially south India. A few hundred also came from abroad.
Speaking to IANS on phone from the venue, they said, "People are still trooping in, awaiting the arrival of Hinn to conduct the mass prayer and deliver sermons. We are expecting 200,000 more people in the night."
The function started with a 2,400-voice choir singing hymns and prayers in several Indian languages apart from English. Giant screens and mega speakers have been installed all over the grounds for a closer view of the massive stage and to listen to Hinn's religious discourses.
Undeterred by the "Bangalore bandh" shutdown call given by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike with the support of the Sangh Parivar, including the Bharatiya Janata party, the organisers are going ahead with the three-day programme, armed with a high court order.
Earlier in the day, the city witnessed stray incidents of stone throwing at moving buses and processions by anti-Hinn activists, demanding a ban on the programme.
According to police, about 60 state-owned buses were damaged in some parts of the city during the day-long shutdown that led to closure of shops and commercial establishments.
Friday being an official holiday on account of Eid, schools, colleges and government offices remained closed, and there was less traffic on roads.
But roads leading to the venue, about 20 km from the city, were choc-a-bloc with hundreds of buses and other vehicles jamming the national highway.
"We have nabbed about 100 miscreants who were indulging in stone throwing and attempting to torch some buses. We have also rounded-up some leaders of the Vedike when they were trying to disrupt traffic and create disturbances," city police commissioner M. Marisamy told IANS.

One in particular whom I met in Houston when I went to pick up the interior from his Gulfstream dressed in African garb with a huge diamond encrusted gold medallion around his neck. Nice rich guy.
When we went back to Houston to finish the job the preacher came on board while we were putting the interior back together.
Then one of the funniest comments I have ever heard came from one of the mechanics at that facility-" Did you guys see that hubcap around that preachers neck ?" I just fell out.
Now I don't hold it against the preacher how he makes his money and I will certainly be glad to relieve him of more of it.
But as the female pilot of another preacher's Gulfstream said when I told her after talking to her boss (in shock at the prices quoted) that I knew he had to be frugal and careful with the faithful's money- " It's God's money."
OK so it's God's money not mine not Bennie Hinn's money not Jimmy Swaggart's money not your money but God's money.
I wouldn't trust any of these con artist's any further than I could throw them off a stage.

If he could prove ONE miraculous healing he could pick up the $100 grand, and what little I know about the creep is that he doesn't leave any money laying around. I saw a documentary following an Indian immigrant family whose son was dying of leukemia. Cameras recorded services, personal meetings, phone calls. After giving everything they had to 'prove' their faith to God --who happened to share the same address as the Benny Hinn Ministry--their son died a slow and painful death. Why? Because they hadn't given quite enough 'proof' of their faith. But giving more would help their grief. Hinn was interviewed and gave a couple of DRs statements who documented miraculous healings through him. The producers looked up the Drs who said they occaisionally saw unexplained recoveries, some were among people of faith, some not. Didn't say it was not miraculous, but said they did not know. Just becasue a Dr gives someone 0 chance to recover only to have some recover means only that they are not infallible. There has to be special place in hell for these creeps. I didn't just put myself under his curse, did I? Hasn't worked on me yet.

You referenced a vague passage on judgment presumably in order to deflect legitimate criticism from Hinn's scam operation.
I offered a few texts that indicate Christians are to be discerning and indeed to exercise 'righteous judgment.'
I know someone who was healed in the parking lot, before she ever got to one of Benny Hinn's rallies.
Not a good idea to condemn the Lord's annointed, even when they're known to have made numerous mistakes.
I don't know Benny Hinn to Judge him. I know that he preaches healings through the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people that have no clue about Jesus especially in non-christian countries. This man has been around for years and have not been convicted of a crime.
He's not a doper or a gambler or an adulterer or a murderer he spends his life going around the world preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He's rich good for him. GOD never said we should be wallowing in Green Acres.
Absolutely not. I sent a couple hundred dollars to CARE for the tsunami victims and I donate to the American Cancer Society. You see, I have survived cancer twice and was not healed by the likes of a con like Hinn but by the skill of a surgeon's hands.
And further more if it is your lot to suffer in this life or to die at any time then that is just your fate. Honey, there ain't no free lunches and no "miracle" cures.
