Dems push bill to cut income of political foe(new WA Gov makes retaliation 1st priority)
The Seattle Times ^ | 1/15/05 | Ralph Thomas

OLYMPIA — Democratic lawmakers are pushing legislation that would take a multimillion-dollar bite out of one of their party's biggest political enemies — the Building Industry Association of Washington.

The move sets up a bitter showdown between the BIAW, a powerful conservative force, and the liberal Washington State Labor Council, which has been trying for years to clip the association's wings.

And it comes at a time when the home-builders group is at the forefront of the state's biggest political controversy, temporarily dedicating its operations to unseating Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire.

Rep. Cary Condotta of Wenatchee, the ranking Republican on the Commerce and Labor Committee, called the bill, which would reduce the BIAW's income from workers'-compensation refunds, a "blatant political attack" on one of the GOP's biggest supporters. And he called the timing of the legislation "very suspect."

The article fails to mention that the BIAW has been active in the investigations surounding the 11/2/04 - 1/12/05 Federal Election, and has just uncovered evidence of Felons voting, even though the Secretary of State has been trying to block their investigation. i.e., the BIAW and the Seattle Times both asked for birthdates of felons to identify illegal voting. The SOS gave them freely to the Times, but refused to give them to the BIAW on the grounds the information isn't public. For more info read soundpolitics.com

This is awfully gutsy of the dems to try this right as the GOP is waiting for results of a lawsuit. Or .. do they have all the judges in their backpockets and figure they can just go ahead and do whatever they want.

ARE WE TALKING ... RECALL .... ??????

IT WORKED IN CALIFORNIA!!!

The Washington State GOP rolled over and played dead. They should have forcibly prevented Christine Grigoire from illegally assuming office.

Block the buildings. Surround the State Supreme Court and the Capitol until they won a revote. They did it in Ukraine. Why couldn't we do it here?

"rolled over and played dead"

That's too bad. I know that's a problem in CA too. These guys are such appeasers they have no spine to do what's right.

Well .. isn't there at least one media outlet who can expose this travesty of an election ..?? I mean Rossi won 2 out of 3 recounts - It's just not fair at all. Even I figured out they counted King County last because they needed to know the amount of votes it would take to win .. Sheeeeesh!

WA GOP are brain dead.

After what the rats tried to do in 2000, they had to have known what was coming.

They have nobody to blame but themselves.

Pretty embarassing for them.

Maybe they thought they'd try the legal route 1st. Having alot of people get arrested wouldn't help us right now, getting heard will. We're in a state that is overwhelmingly blue, so a little tact goes along way. Right now the overwhelming majority of the state is listening to the issues and evidence, and is supporting a revote.

Militant like action at this point would only distract from the mission, but rallys, talk radio, spreading the word in level headed concise manners will keep the good will uphold the goodwill we've worked so hard for, and give the GOP time to pursue the lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Chrizilla is using this opportunity to snatch up every piece of rope she can find to hang herself with.

Read post #8. It is what I was going to write. The GOP is not rolling over and playing dead, they are exhausting the legal options before they go nuclear. Much as Christine and the Democrats might want, this story is not going away. Every day this week there have been new revelations, new scandals covered in the media. This, combined with yesterdays story about them saying this needs to be handled by the Legislature and not the courts when for weeks they've been saying this needs to be handled by the courts and not the Legislature are making them look like fools and power-mad. The Blogosphere (www.soundpolitics.com in particular) has had to drag the media kicking and screaming to the stories, but they are now getting onto them. Rossi was on Hannity & Colmes last Friday. Word is getting out. This is far from over.

Did you click through to the article?

The Washington Farm Bureau, which runs the state's second-biggest workers'-comp pool, also would take a big hit. Like the BIAW, the Farm Bureau retains 20 percent of its members' refunds.

No I didn't. I'm not real happy with the Farm Bureau after the way the kissed Arnold's butt here in CA. His environmental policy should have made him the enemy!

Wow! This is certainly great news. I'm so glad to hear that Rossi is not going to drop this - the dems have cheated to win this office and they really deserve to be soundly defeated.

The Washington State GOP rolled over and played dead.

Whatever makes you feel better, I suppose. But many of us are pretty busy fighting this, and still working on getting it fixed. But, because the media isn't covering it, it must not be happening, right? Geez.

They should have forcibly prevented Christine Grigoire from illegally assuming office.

Define "Forcibly". What would YOU have done, and why didn't you come up here and help organize it? Hmmm???
