(Second Thoughts) CBS Promises to be Fair and Balanced
County Press (suburban Phila.) ^ | 1-12-05 | William W. Lawrence

A Broadcasting & Cable magazine source which reported that CBS has promised to be "fair and balanced" was met with snickers, hilarity and amusement by discussion groups on conservative websites.

Broadcasting & Cable staff reported that "CBS is desperately trying to repair relations with the Bush White House."

It says CBS has taken a page from the Fox News Channel with a promise to become "fair and balanced."

According to the magazine staff, the promise was delivered during a recent White House meeting that included CBS News President Andrew Heyward, Washington bureau chief Janet Leissner and Bush communications director Dan Bartlett.

The source said the CBS News chief told Bartlett that "neither CBS News nor Anchorman Dan Rather had a vendetta against the White House," with Heyward reportedly pledging: "From here on out, (CBS) would do everything it could to be fair and balanced."

CBS has a long history of being unfair and unbalanced in its news coverage.

Walter Cronkite, who was a popular CBS Evening News anchorman for nearly two decades, has recently said, "I think most newspapermen by definition have to be liberal; if they're not liberal, by my definition of it, they can hardly be good newspapermen."

It must be something in the CBS water.

This sounds like the promises of sobriety uttered by every end-stage doomed alcoholic.

The sooner CBS is driven into its well deserved demise, the better for America. Just hurry up and die.

"I promise I'll still love you in the morning" and "You're the only girl I've ever done this with", other promises CBS officials made when they were teenage boys.

Our boy, Arlen (Wishy-Washy) Specter, who I knew as Philadelphia's crusading district attorney, has been elected chairman of the influential Senate Judiciary Committee. The vote among his fellow GOP panel members was 12-0. But he had to promise -- in writing -- that he would carry the water for all of President Bush's judicial choices and support his other aims, including tort reform, to get their votes. I think the panel made a bad choice and I am reminded of Oscar Levant speaking of another politician: "He'll doublecross that bridge when he comes to it."

On the contrary they think the building is very nice. They just don't like Republicans living in it.

Fair and Balanced.

What's fair? Dan Rather and Heywood meet publically with President Bush and his staff and apologize for their wonton policitization of the presidential election.

What's balanced? EQUAL felony convictions for Mapes and Rather along with that Texas ANG light colonel and Joe Lockhart. For a conspiracy to forge federal documents relating to a federal election. Any one else?

"From here on out, (CBS) would do everything it could to be fair and balanced."

A clear admission that up until now, they have been niether fair or balanced.

The Communist Broadcasting System has been, is, and will always be to the left of Karl Marx.

Caught in the very act of trying to throw a presidential election. Lying about the facts. Stonewalling the obvious cover-up. Then using every damage control PR trick.

Like most liberals CBS has no shame.
