Two reasons why people don't use MAC's.
1. Unfamiliarity
2. Economics
Why buy a MAC for $900 when you can buy a Dell for $349?
And most people have PC's, so that means your neighbor will probably be helpful (in screwing it up even more) because he is familiar with it.
3. They previously purchased a Mac, which effectively turned into a doorstop right after they took it out of the box.
I understand the value of frugality but I am not a cheapskate and even though Macs do cost more than PC's they make up for it in saved productivity. For those in the creative arts, such as graphic design, desktop publishing, etc., nothing beats a Mac.
Unfortunately I have to use a PC at work (and it seems that I'm calling tech support for something or other at least once a month). I despise the stupid thing.
Because you get what you pay for.
Bunk. Now with the Mac Mini, the last excuse for owning a Mac is GONE. At $499, you can put a paperback sized computer in your backpack and look down on the poor Microsoft PC tower sloths who are literally chained to those clunky PC's in their homes. Once you own a Mac, you swear you'll never go back to being a devotee of Bill Gates.
1) Low end Dells usually run about 500$, and 2) the Mac mini runs 500$
