Brainy girls have marriage handicap

A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married, while it is an asset for men, according to a study by four British universities.

The study found the likelihood of marriage increased by 35 per cent for males for each 16-point increase in IQ.

But for females, there was a 40 per cent drop for each 16-point rise.

The findings, by the universities of Aberdeen, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow, were published in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper.

The study was based on the IQs of 900 males and females between their 10th and 40th birthdays.

Paul Brown, a psychologist and professor at Nottingham University, told the Sunday Times: "Women in their late 30s who have gone for careers after the first flush of university and who are among the brightest of their generation are finding that men are just not interesting enough."

Writer and broadcaster Claire Rayner said intelligent men often prefered a less brainy partner.

"A chap with a high IQ is going to get a demanding job that is going to take up a lot of his energy and time.

"In many ways he wants a woman who is an old-fashioned wife and looks after the home, a copy of his mum in a way."

I don't get it. I only want to deal with women who ARE intelligent. However it appears that they are simply not getting married.

Oh boy. The fur is gonna start flying around here real soon. :) FWIW, I know Mr. Ex can't stand dumb women...or dumb people in general.

I honestly don't know many men who will actually marry a stupid woman. Date, certainly, but marry? I don't think so.

This is big problem if we going to continue to have a civilization in the future. Intelligent women not having kids = the population gets less intelligent. The only eugenic factor today is the availability of cheap abortion to low-intelligence single mothers. Any yet most conservatives want to do a way with abortion altogeter. Go figure.

Women, I believe, have a different sort of biological intelligence. They choose better lifestyles that allow them to live a lot longer, for one thing.

A HIGH IQ is a hindrance for women wanting to get married...

Bah. My wife is a brilliant woman. She went to college on a partial scholarship and graduated at the top of her class and has worked in embedded systems for satellites since her graduation. She's the best darned partner I could have ever wished for.

I think the thing that's keeping a lot of these "high IQ" women unmarried ain't their IQs...it's their personality (which has most likely become poisoned with anti-male 'feminist philosophy').

Got that right. . .play with them, fine, but never marry dumb.

The article has it wrong by placing the alleged drop in marriage for "smart" women. The simple reason may be these women don't want to get married as they went to school we indoctrinated in the ways of feminism and look at marriage as oppression. They bought into the Nike/Reebok "I-am-woman-hear-me-roar" and marriage is not a smart career move. This is the feminist thought process regarding marriage and is wrong. Many smart women choose to get married and choose to have a life and a family. The ones "at the top" are few and the costs for anyone reaching those heights pay a high toll personally. Not just women.

Intelligence seems to make women career oriented and strongly motivated to work outside the home while kids are young. Both of those attributes detract from being an effective, stay-at-home, dedicated mother.

Darwinism is at work here: "intelligent" women don't procreate (as much). Said differently, "intelligent" women are really stupid. Truly intelligent women make men salivate and produce babies in large numbers.

Why would a man, if offered a choice, marry a career woman, except when he: 1) wants to be Mr. Mom; or 2) is was afraid of what might happen to his kids if he is hit by a comet; 3) needs a second income?

I don't think your average guy is afraid of intelligence, they just don't care much for attitude. Neither do women BTW.

From my exposure to women who have been in the education food chain for long, it seems the chip on their sholders grows larger each year. I believe that has been promoted by professors who didn't want women to be doormats for men. While that is admirable, it's been overplayed to the point of being destructive. Of course there are many exceptions, I'm just going by what I've encountered.

My wife is more and less capable than I in different areas. She teaches me a thing or two, I'll tell ya. On the other hand in some areas I stretch her abilities. That's healthy.

I've also been in long term relationships with someone who didn't challenge me. I think they resented it. In addition I don't think it was a particularly good medium for growth for me.

Give me an intelligent average looking person without a chip on their shoulder (I could care less about the money) willing to work together as equals, and I'll sign on when I'm free.

I don't plan on being free again.

Well, intelligence has an inherited component of about 50%. When this is coupled with the fact that most low-intelligence single mothers will not provide the ideal environment (pre- or post birth) for their offspring, the result is a dysgenic trend in intelligence.
