After an Often-Tumultuous Tenure, Daschle Exits Quietly (WaPo's Sympathy for the Daschle)
The Washington Post ^ | Sunday, December 12, 2004 | Eric Pianin

Daschle, 57, led the Senate Democrats through a tumultuous decade of a government shutdown, the impeachment of a president, the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and an anthrax assault on his Senate staff. Now he says he is focused on the future and a possible new career with a Washington law firm, investment house or public policy think tank. He has pretty much ruled out lobbying.

during an interview Friday in his stately office at the Capitol overlooking the Mall, Daschle declined to discuss the campaign or his feelings about Frist, dismissing such an exercise as "corrosive and so totally unproductive."

As a relatively junior member when he succeeded Mitchell as Democratic leader in January 1995, the boyish-looking Daschle was easy to underestimate.

Yet Daschle methodically courted the more senior Democrats and persuaded them to close ranks. Then he helped them use the rules to advance Democratic priorities such as the minimum wage, prescription drugs for seniors and HMO regulations, while thwarting the Republicans' marquee initiative -- a constitutional amendment to balance the budget.

Although he and the prickly Lott could not have been more different in style and temperament, they forged a collaborative relationship that proved crucial to the Democrats and Clinton in weathering the historic impeachment trial in early 1999. Daschle had been disgusted by the revelation of Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica S. Lewinsky and fumed publicly over the president's legalistic "hairsplitting" in defending himself.

"At any moment at that time, a negative signal from Tom Daschle would have brought down the presidency," a veteran Democratic senator close to Daschle said.

But Daschle and Lott believed that conservative House Republicans had gone too far by impeaching the president for essentially lying about his affair in a civil proceeding, and they worked successfully behind the scenes to avert a conviction.

No mention of Daschle's leading the unconstitutional filibuster against judicial nominees. In fact the word 'filibuster' appears nowhere in this article. The article just throws in that Daschle 'frequently clashed' with President Bush over judicial nominations.

Also, no mention by The Washington Post that Daschle was exposed this fall as having fraudulently filed for the District of Columbia's Homestead Tax break, meant for primary residences for citizens of D.C.

======
Dash-hole DID NOT LEAD anyone or anything, other than obstructionism, outright lying, filibustering, and the generation and support of anything that made Bush look like the leader he is. Thank God this maggot is gone. And, of course he was fully supported by the leftist MSM.

That pretty much sums it all up. Disgusting.

or public policy think tank

If Dashole does any thinking for one of these places, it'll surely tank.

From the WP article: "As a relatively junior member when he succeeded Mitchell as Democratic leader in January 1995, the boyish-looking Daschle was easy to underestimate."

Is "boyish-looking" code for something?

Rarely was the Republic in greater danger, than when both Dasshole and Lott were "in power"...

You are darn right he won't go into lobbying. The Republicans own the town and that's where the money is.

That reminds me. No mention of the new welfare rule for Daschle's staff giving them two month's severance pay. This is a new Senate rule even though they were put on notice November 2, giving them two months before the 109th Congress convenes on January 4, 2005.

It's code for he had to use a step stool at press conferences to give himself 'stature' and gravitas.

argh! Your great subtitle brought back a song I try not to recall. But since you got me started....Doug, chime in if you like with a few verses....

Please allow me to recuse myself.
Lost my Indian-a 'jones'

Hung around in Washington,
tried to prevent any change....
Killed nominees who would upend Roe
Litmus test for the game.

Sad to leave you,
Daschle is my name.
I was hustlin' you,
that's the nature of my game.

now if THAT picture had Daschle standing, a SCOTUS nominee on the sickbed and a horse's head on the bed....

...it would match the *other end* that is standing....

I'm shocked. Shocked to find out that he is not going back to Aberdeen, South Dakota to continue his career in helping out the people of that great state.

Here is a Daschle Christmas song from 2001 --

MIDI - JINGLE BELLS

Daschle's in the snow…let us roll him in a ball
Freeze his little toes…heck, let's freeze 'em all
We have had enough…he's out of control
Why don't we take his fork-ed tongue and stick it to a pole

Daschle smells…Daschle smells…he has got to go
He is an obstructionist…by now, everyone should know-ow
Daschle smells…Daschle smells…he has got to go
He is an obstructionist…by now, everyone should know

Little Tommy thinks that he'll be the president
Our jobs he would tank…that is evident
He wants Bush to fail…that's his only hope
If he won't change his attitude, let's find a tree and rope

Daschle smells…Daschle smells…he has got to go
He is an obstructionist…by now, everyone should know-ow
Daschle smells…Daschle smells…he has got to go
He is an obstructionist…by now, everyone should know

ADDITIONAL VERSE
When he makes his run, he will get a big surprise
There will be a witch right before his eyes
He'll appeal to you…that he wants your vote
On FOXNews we will watch as she is ripping out his throat

Daschle smells…Daschle smells…he has got to go
He is an obstructionist…by now, everyone should know-ow
Daschle smells…Daschle smells…he has got to go
He is an obstructionist…by now, everyone should know

Daschle in my estimation was and is a skunk and I would expect his stench to follow him for a while since he worked so diligently to attain that well deserved but dubious honor!
