Imans To Be Taught About The French Way Of Life

Imams to be taught about the French way of life

By Colin Randall in Paris
(Filed: 08/12/2004)

France is to intensify efforts to integrate its large Muslim minority by trying to create a generation of French-speaking, socially aware imams equipped with some knowledge of law and diplomas from Parisian universities including the Sorbonne.

Dismayed by calculations that a third of the imams practising in France do not speak the language of their adopted country, the interior minister, Dominique de Villepin, wants to launch a foundation early next year.

A two-year course at the Sorbonne and Assas universities, starting next autumn, would take the initiative further, giving aspiring Muslim preachers instruction in French law and society.

However, in a rebuff to Nicolas Sarkozy, the new president of the ruling UMP party and former finance minister, Mr de Villepin rejected any notion of tampering with France's 1905 law separating church and state.

Mr Sarkozy had raised the possibility of an amendment allowing state funding to ensure that every town of reasonable size had a mosque.

French politicians of all parties are concerned that immigrants living in high-rise blocks of flats on Muslim-dominated estates are turning to self-styled imams who deliver their frequently anti-western rhetoric in ground-floor prayer rooms.

But in an interview with Le Parisien, Mr de Villepin backed the view of President Jacques Chirac that the law was an untouchable "pillar of the temple".

He added: "It creates a correct balance between religious freedoms and state neutrality and it would be dangerous to distort that balance. In 1905, Islam wasn't a factor within the republic. Now it must find its place. I am convinced that the law allows us to meet that challenge. Of 1,200 imams preaching in our country today, 75 per cent are not French and a third do not speak our language. That is unacceptable. What we need is imams who are French and speak French."

Each candidate on the courses would follow a course covering theological and secular needs. Regional councils would be asked to provide French courses for existing imams.

France faces parallel issues in its attempts to cope with what has become the country's second-biggest religion: how to keep a lid on extremism and how to persuade the broader French public to be more tolerant of the country's six million Muslims.

The case of Abdelkader Bouziane, a radical Algerian imam deported in October because suspected links to terrorists made his presence damaging to public order, illustrates both issues.

Bouziane attracted even more attention for his advocacy of wife-beating than for the questionable company he may have kept. The spectacle of a preacher speaking in favour of violence against women, and then complaining that his limitations in French had caused him to be misunderstood, did nothing to further the interests of moderation or understanding.

However, M de Villepin insisted that the vast majority of Muslims in France were moderates who wished to practise their religion but also be part of society. Of 1,685 known Muslim places of worship, fewer than 50 could be linked to radicalism.

Dalil Boubaker, the president of the French Muslim Council, said a list of 60 prospective students had been drawn up.

Lhaj Thami Breze, president of the French Union of Islamic Organisations, said he would encourage theological students to follow the courses "because an imam must not be ignorant of secularity and its history in France".

This is good. We can take Iran without firing a shot and they'll probably run away and give us a ton of land. The french are good for something.

You need to add [NOT humor] to the title, though.

Now the Imams can start recruiting the locals for jihad as well as the immigrants.

Reminds me of one of my Dad's favorite sayings:

This is dangerous. Now Islamic terrorists will know about cheese-eating surrender monkeys and white flags. Say "goodbye" to France.

This latest French response to the Islamic threat is so pathetic as to be laughable.

Europe WILL be Muslim within this century, regardless of the ludicrous attempts by the Frogs to enlighten the Imams (religious leadership) and/or the general Muslim population regarding the Gaullic way of life.

Muslims do not assimilate! The Europeans are just not awakening --and far too late-- to their civilizational death-knell. In the UK, Leicester already has a majority Muslim population -- and so it goes.

Demographics, time and ideology have collectively signed the death warrant of Western Civilization on the European continent. America, be alarmed and forearmed; and acknowledge the basic fact that we are in a mortal battle for our very survival as a Christian entity.

So the French actually think that teaching the Imam's table manners is going to change their thoughts on all the verses in the Koran, Hadith and other books of learning, and their 1400 year old plus natural ways to stop wanting to take over French and the rest of the non-Muslim infadils world wide. Play with matches and get burned.
Boy, do they have a rude awakening.

This won't be a big change after all.The only real difference will be the muslims will speak more openly about sex with young boys and the severe bouts of American penis envy that they suffer from. They are already backstabbing cowards and unwashed onion smelling pigs.

Mostly correct. However, don't give up total hope on the Europeans. With the murder of Van Gogh, they are quickly waking up. The Germans have an opposition leader that's totally ready ready to defumigate the country. She will probably be elected chancellor within 2 years. She supports Bush in Iraq and actually seems to give a darn about the future of Anglos in Europe.

I've come to the point where I'm trying to figure out what Europe is going to do after they clean out their Muslims, since there won't be many working age people left. If I had to guess now, I'd expect them to go to Central and South America to find their labor pool, while the few women they have who are of child-bearing age spend their time locked up in 'reproduction centers' in a desperate attempt to repopulate.

It will be interesting to watch, but I'm optimistic.

"This won't be a big change after all.The only real difference will be the muslims will speak more openly about ...."

Yea. We kid alot about the French and other Europeans as how they import most of their labor from the mid and far east.
But we in America better wake the heck up. The same thing is going to happen hear in due time. It is only so long before many cities are going to have to face similiar issues.
Let us not forget about six months or so ago........where the Muslims in I belive the Detroit area where asking for the local laws to be changed so that they could be permitted to play their call fo prayers on loud speakers broadcasting across the neighborhoods. The non Muslims all of a sudden realized that ..............whoooooo. What is going on here. I don't remember what the outcome was but.
But for us that live in states like PA, NJ, just to name two I can what is happening in. There are growing numbers of mid easterners migrating in. And they will produce more Muslims as they prosper. And before long there will be large communities of Muslims of all ethenic backgrounds wanting equal time under the laws of our lands. This is no joke.
One can hop up and down and say .....well our country is open to all. Yea, but they are supposed to become citizens and learn all the laws, and nuicances of our society, then integrate in as good citizens. Are we to expect Muslims that are not of professional quality (e.g. doctors and engineers for intance) to fall into line? I doubt it.
