Iran Confirms Al Qaeda Trials (OBL's Son Sentenced to Death?)

Iran has confirmed it has tried and sentenced fugitive members of Al Qaeda detained on its soil, but maintained tight secrecy over which members of Osama Bin Laden's terrorist network were in the Islamic republic.

'The sentences have been pronounced,' a Tehran justice department offical said, confirming a report from the semi official Fars news agency that all Al Qaeda detainee cases had been treated in Tehran by a 'special judge.'

The official refused to say who the accused were, how many of them there were, what verdicts were reached or how the sentences were handed out.

Quoted by the Fars news agency, the head of Tehran's judiciary said the 'judgements pronounced conform totally to the law and the top officials of the regieme are satisifed by the sentences.'

Iran said that those Al Qaeda operatives not extrdited to their country of origin or deemed to have acted against the Islamic Republic's national security-a charge that can carry the death penalty-would be tried in Iranian courts.

Exactly who has been held in Iran has been the suject of intense speculation, with diplomats and Arab press reports pointing to the possible presence of the movement's spokesman Sulaiman Abu Gaith, Al Qaeda #3 Saif al-Adel, as well as Osama Bin Laden's son and Al Qaeda heir, Saad.

Iran has remained tight lipped over who they are holding, and its perecived ambiguity over the issue has prompted US allegiations that the Islamic republic has been harbouring and even collaborating with members of Al Qaeda.

Indirect talks between Iran and the US on a possible exchange of Al Qaeda members and top Iranian armed rebels reportedly broke down in 2003.

And in February, Spain's top anti terror judge Baltasar Garzon alledged that Al Qaeda had a 'board of managers' operating in Iran.

Has anyone heard an outcry from the liberal left about "fair trials" for the terrorists at the hands of umm... a terrorist regime? Or does the liberal left only protest the American judicial process?

Oh. Well that clears up any questions I may have had.

In that case I have no choice but to believe this is a factual and honest statement from the always trustworthy Iranian regime.

This is mostly a way to increase Iran's "plausible deniability" when Al Qaida launches their big attack. Hezbollah will probably be unleashed at the same time, but it will all be blamed on Al Qaida.

In other words, this gives the libs and euroweenies a better excuse to screem when we retaliate against the "innocent" Iranians.

The sad thing is that many Iranians ARE innocent. They would love to get rid of the Ayatollahs, but can't.

Another possibility is that Iran is playing a double game. They help Al Qaida, which suits their goal of destroying The Great Satan (i.e., us). But they also have family members of Bin Laden as quasi hostages. That gives them extra influence with Al Qaida (no attacks on the U.S. until Iran says OK, etc.).

If the truth be known they have given death sentences to a bunch of students that want a little freedom and have hung an ElQiada jacket on them. They can get away with the executions and curry favor with the US at the same time..

"I don't believe a word of it. It's a typical muslim-lying smokescreen."

Of course it is. Persia is where the game of tactical deception was taken to such a high art that they turned it into a board game. Persia was destroyed by the Muhammadans and the shah is sadly no more, but the Shah's game, known as chess, is still with us. Iran IS the belly of the Beast.

As some others have voiced, I think this is trash news. If they really charged, then convicted "terrorist", then they would have opened their doors to show the world who was convicted, by whom, for what alleged charges.
The news is probably fabricated.
