Hunter and Sensenbrenner made us safer...

INTEL REFORMED OR NOT: The early indications say - not bad. Score a win for Congressman Hunter who because of his persistence got the very good language added:

"The new national intelligence director shall respect and not abrogate the statutory responsibilities of the heads of the departments of the United States government."

With these words of insurance Hunter is now free to support the measure and give President Bush a clear win on his first legislative agenda item since the election.

Hunter's biggest concern dealt with red tape getting in the way of the chain of command that would prevent the troops in the field from being able to act on satellite evidence that was being provided to the Defense Department.

The jury is still out on House Judiciary chairman James Sensenbrenner. The congressman from Wisconsin wanted to see a restriction in the bill on the ability of illegal aliens to recieve driver's licenses.

It has been noted that all 19 hi-jackers of 9/11 had secured U.S. driver's licenses - some 64 in total.

Sensenbrenner on his own will not have the power or the votes to delay the legislation any further and it is likely that Hastert WILL get it done in this lame duck session.

But because of the laser focus that Sensenbrenner has given to the issue of the weaknesses in the ability to get driver's licenses, it is my personal hope that has been able to secure a pledge from top GOP leadership to get the driver's license issue looked at as perhaps a broader piece of legislation on border security or immigration reform sometime early in 2005.

I thought that Hunter and Sensenbrenner were both honorable in their opposition to the raw bill and their insistence on the important issues they championed has made us safer as a result.

Damn right. Must think beyond this administration. To a Dem one with a Jamie Garelick type at Justice, who's role is to exploit the law in an effort to hurt the military.

"It has been noted that all 19 hi-jackers of 9/11 had secured U.S. driver's licenses "

They weren't illegal immigrants. The licenses were legal. They had correct names and pictures. Sebsenberger's amendments wouldn't have made any difference. Sensenberger is a liar or a fool.

From the 9/11 Commission Report (p. 16):
"Fourteen of 15 operatives and all of the pilots acquired one or multiple forms of U.S. state-issued identification. Only Satam al Suqami did not, possibly because he was the only hijacker who knew he was out of immigration status: his length of stay end date of May 20, 2000, was clearly inserted in his passport."

The 9/11 Commission was a circus. What is wrong with legitimate questions about their recommendations? I believe the yelling and screaming about not adopting the commissions recomendations says more about its content than the questions raised by Hunter and Sensenbrenner. If I was Hunter, with a son in Iraq I belive, I would have stood my ground as he did. I am also suspicious of the testimony from the 9/11 families.

"The rod" is far worse than a troll. He is clearly seeking the downfall of America and the destruction of our society.

If they overstayed their visas, they were illegal immigrants.

Uh, there are only 17 posts. Is post 50 some mythical, grand response that makes your constant defense of illegal immigrants make some sort of sense? If so, the fact that it does not exist makes perfect sense.

Except hunter sold out his buddy Sennsenbrenner. It would be interesting to know what the President gave Hunter.
