Netherlands Hospital Euthanizes Babies AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - A hospital in the Netherlands - the first nation to permit euthanasia - recently proposed guidelines for mercy killings of terminally ill newborns, and then made a startling revelation: It has already begun carrying out such procedures, which include administering a lethal dose of sedatives.

The Groningen Protocol is the proposal of doctors in the Netherlands for the establishment of an “independent committee” charged with selecting babies and other severely handicapped or disabled people for euthanasia.

As reported in the Grand Forks Herald: “Under the Groningen protocol, if doctors at the hospital think a child is suffering unbearably from a terminal condition, they have the authority to end the child's life. The protocol is likely to be used primarily for newborns, but it covers any child up to age 12.”

The report further noted the parents’ wishes on whether a child should live or die would be considered, but the final decision would be left to the “committee.”

The Drudge Report broadcast the news to the cyber world this November: “The protocol was already in effect, and at least four babies had been deemed disposable, and killed.”

Columnist Hugh Hewitt called it “a radical leap past Kevorkian land into the regions of Mengele.

“Four years into the new century, and one can only guess where it will end. I do not think it is safe to bet that these next 96 years will be less bloody than the years 1905 to 1999,” he concluded.

It won't take long for the parents to lose their voice in this decision, either. It will eventually be based on an unemotional, cost-burden/benefit ratio. For example:

Form T1: Termination Evaluation

Patient life expectancy:   63 years
Cost to preserve life at adequate levels :   10K/yr * 63 yrs (630,000)
Expected productivity of patient :   1
Cost Benefit Ratio* :   630,000 : 1
Termination status :   1 (Immediate termination)

*Cost benefit ratio exceeding 4 requires immediate termination

Why not? It's just the logical outcome when life is trivialized, and though horrifying, I'm not really shocked.

Who are we to judge them. We, as a nation, have killed a full third of Gen X before they were born. Don't act like we are on some moral high ground.

Wichita Kansas is known as the Abortion Captial of the U.S. with our (in)famous Dr. Tiller. We can't even begin to cast that stone.

These things always start small...........I wonder what the selection criteria will me 20 years from now. I guess if we start killing our own babies then we are just doing the job of the Muslim extremists for them, kind of a surrender by proxy
