We had a great turnout on Day 1, and you can find the results, and a link to the updated brackets here.
Today we have 4 great contests, including one that has been highly anticipated. Today's contests, in our opinion, have a great shot at giving us some "upsets" by lower seeds.
Below are thumbnail sketches on today's matchups and pictures of each contestant, including the first round matchup most anticipated by many.
James Carville (#5 Seed) Old Serpent Head comes in as a tough #5 seed. The only reason he's not higher is that aside from politics, he seems like he'd be a fun guy to go to a ball game and have a beer with. Also, he's a realist who was not above putting a trash can on his head on Election night 2002, and was among the first in 2004 to say Kerry was going to lose., and smacked an egg on his head on Meet the Press. However, James' liberal arrogant transgressions do more than make up for that. His smug, demeaning and shameful treatment of Swifty John O'Neil on Crossfire was a "I wish I could punch him out" moment. Further, after Zell Miller's stirring GOP Convention speech Carville said the GOP likely "drugged" him. And he was serious. Finally, any man responsible for, and a diehard loyalist of, Bill Clinton is as bad as it gets.
Ellen Goodman(#12 Seed) What can we say about this snotty Boston Globe columnist other than she is the perfect epitome of the Bostonian elitist snobbery? She and her holier-than-thou elitism is the epitome of why America hates New England liberals. Let's sample some of this classic blue-staters views on various issues, shall we? On the partial birth abortion ban: "simply a mistrust of women as moral decision-makers." On Iraq: "we are still being willfully misled". On atheist Micheal Newdow's fight to keep "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance: "Newdow is right". On gay marriage: "it's the conservatives pushing the most radical idea: a constitutional freeze on social change." We could go on an on, but you get the picture.
EJ Dionne (#7 Seed) This Washington Post writer is the poster child for major media elitism. He thinks he knows everything, and is likely the kind of kid who got beat up a lot. Substantively, though EJ has long been a smug Democratic cheerleader, who once stated "the mainstream media was "heavily biased toward conservative politics and conservative politicians" because they are intimidated by right-wing complaints." Recently, he's been at his most execrable by wrongly smearing the Swifties as liars Hey EJ, guess what? Your relevance, and credibility was up long ago.
Richard Cohen (#10 Seed) Another long time liberal columnist who has yet to get over the fact that he's fairly irrelevant - and who probably got beat up a lot by cool kids. His recent outrages have been calling for the impeachment of George Bush a week prior to the election, and sounding the drum on the bogus "Bush is a deserter" charge. He's rated lower than his colleague Dionne, for his occasional moments of sanity, which include slamming Dennis Kucinich and Michael Moore.
Bill Moyers (#4 Seed) Wrap up all the criteria for this award and you have Bill Moyers. Moyers is perhaps the most smug, arrogant, elitist pundit around, but because of his relatively low visibility, he's only a # 4 seed. What can we say about this jerk that Steven Hayes, of the Weekly Standard hasn't said already? Even worse, not only is Moyers sympathetic to left wing socialist causes, he quietly profits from, and funds them as well Plus, he's a former Judge Elihu Smails Buffoon of The Week Award Winner
Susan Estrich (#13 Seed) - If having a screeching, jump-off-the-bridge voice were the sole criteria, Susan wins in a landslide. She's got the liberal credentials - she ran Dukakis' campaign after all, and she's certainly arrogant at times. Some had asked why Susan was ranked so low. Well, for one, she's only a "guest" on cable news, so her exposure is low. But she also told Bill Clinton in spring, 2004, to stop sucking oxygen out of the Democratic candidates which was pretty gutsy. But lest you think we're going soft, this is the same woman who smugly and angrily reacted when Brit Hume asked her to back up her claims on Election night. Not only that but she was a leading proponent of smearing Bush with Kitty Kelley fabrications such as him causing an abortion, and more drunk driving arrests. This should be a great contest.
Helen Thomas(#8 Seed) - If longevity were the sole factor here, Helen wins in a landslide. We're pretty sure she was asking press conference where Moses announcing the discovery of the 10 Commandments. But it's nice to know that some things never change. For years, Helen has been a loony left-wing, Arab-terrorist-loving nag, whose sole mission in life seems to be viscerally criticising Repulican Presidents. Helen has spewed more vitriol against the GOP than we have bandwith to list, but we thought we would higlight her most recent screed, wherein she called President Bush a "fascist" and referring to Condi Rice as a "monster" and a "god damned liar". Which tells you all you need to know about this classless fossil.
Katie Couric(#9 Seed) - OK, we admit it, we LOVE her gams. But that's about it. Katie is perhaps the most "perky" of the left wing pundits. We know, you're saying that she's just a morning show host, she's not a pundit. Well, that would be true, if you didn't consider the obvious bias she shows during interviews of political and world leaders. And it really was quite obvious after the most recent election that Katie was in mourning over John Kerry's loss. Surely if this contest were on looks alone, it would be 100%-0, but it's not. And although Helen is tough, Katie could give her a fight, as her arrogance, condescension and elitism are hard to hide.

Annoying Liberal Pundit Contest Ping
Voted.
Haven't voted on the contests, and won't. It's like an excellent bracket in March Madness; the NCAA basketball tournament sometimes puts up two teams that both deserve to win because they are both excellent. I feel that way about most of your matches. It is a crying shame for any of them to be defeated.

Thank you Sir.
I think I figured out your 'butterfly ballot' on your homepage, but I think it needs some work. Just a heads-up.

reiterate congressman.....good work
How did Katrina VandenHateful lose in the first round?
Hey, I don't know. I voted for her -- Twice. But the people have spoken.
Will do. Make sure you vote, and tell your friends to do so, because 1 hour into the voting Moyers is trailing badly.
No, it can't be. It's the BBV's. Count every vote. Count every vote as many times as necessary until my man wins.
(BTW, I tried to vote, but whether I was successful or not is anybody's guess.)
Actually you probably were. If you voted (you can only vote in one contest at a time due to technology restraints), and the "results" page came up next, your vote counted.
Check.
Can't you e-mail Fox and Friends, or Tony Snow, or both, on this..you'll get lots of publicity..even try Bob Grant..
