SEOUL (AFP) - A South Korean woman paralyzed for 20 years is walking again after scientists say they repaired her damaged spine using stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood.

Hwang Mi-Soon, 37, had been bedridden since damaging her back in an accident two decades ago.

Last week her eyes glistened with tears as she walked again with the help of a walking frame at a press conference where South Korea (news - web sites) researchers went public for the first time with the results of their stem-cell therapy.

Note: this was done using non-embryonic stem cells.

NOTE: UMBILICAL CORD stem cells, NOT EMBRYONINC. Note how the difference isn't being explained. benign ignorance.

Wait just a minute, here! Ron Reagan JUNIOR insists that destroying human embryos is THE WAY for science to MARCH FORWARD and cure all manner of disease and distress!

Why in the world are we hearing about success in a stem cell field that DOESN'T kill human embryos?

Why are we hearing about success in a field where the BABY IS BROUGHT FULL TERM and the UMBILICAL CORD BLOOD is used for successful healing of people?? This will NOT set well with the lefties.

No one has a problem with stem-cell research involving the throw-away placenta or the umbilical cord of a baby born
alive and well. Nor of an umbilical cord/placenta of a child still-born. It's the fertilization of eggs CREATING life with the intent of destroying it that perturbs!

Wonderful news for the doctors involved here; wonderful news for the woman who regained the use of her legs. God works in wondrous ways!

May He have mercy on her soul.

Maybe there is room for common ground here. After all, umbilical cord stem cells would be available after a Partial Birth Abortion, too. The baby doesn't have to be born alive...

< /sarc>. Normally I wouldn't bother closing the < sarc> tag on this one, but you just know somebody would take it seriously and flame the heck out of me...

The pro-ESC's lobbyists look foolish in light of these miraculous treatments that utilize Adult Stem Cells.

Notice the silence from those who advocate the spending of billions on Embryonic Stem Cell research that has yielded NOTHING!!! I'll say it again...Embryonic Stem Cell research has yielded NOTHING!!...The ESC lobby hangs onto words like, "promise" and "hope for" cures...in other words, euphemisms for NOTHING.

If the pro-ESC's were truly interested in beneficial treatments, they would be singing the praises of these Adult Stem Cell treatments and cures...The fact that they are silent shows their true agenda.

The Democrats really put on over on the sheeples on this one. People that I knew with sick relatives believed that it was only embryonic stem cells that would work and that is just a tiny part of the stem cell research. GOP didn't do good job in getting truth out on this one IMHO

Such a shame Christopher Reeve spent all that time and energy on embryonic stem cells when the real hope is in adult stem cells and cord blood.

We tried to tell you Chris...

I'll believe this after the Koreansd release all the data AND the process can be duplicated. As far as I can see this is nothing but a clain with no supporting data.

Although not highlighted in the article, it does mention that cells from umbilical cord blood were used, not embryonic stem cells, so there really isn't conflict with the Bible.

I think you misunderstood where the stem cells came from. If not, please provide Scriptural evidence of "Our Lord God"'s teaching against this.

Umbilical chord?

If only it was from an aborted baby!

Then it would be the leading story on the evening news.

I agree with your comment. There has to be more proof than an unsubstantiated claim from Korea. Maybe Benny Hinn touched her on the forehead and she was cured.

Hope, but verify.

"Whatever, its all against the teachings of Our Lord God."

What God and teachings are you talking about? Do you know what an umbilical cord is? Are you aware that no embryo or fetus was killed to do this research? Is it possible that God's mercy was involved in this woman's getting out of her wheelchair???
