Putin is trying to restore USSR-era Russian holdings. He's been getting puppets installed here and there (and I think Belarus voted to reunite with Russia, dunno if that went through though). Once the Ukraine is back under Russian control, whatever assistance was forthcoming for the WOT will no longer be.

This bunch:

Looks like they came straight from the Monty Python Flying Circus set.

Especially the fat guy with the really absurd uniform hat!
Put him and Bagdhad Bob on the same TV sitcom (or Network News Program) and I think you might have a real hit there!

Seriesly, tho; Would YOU buy a condo on the Kiev from any one of these rascals?

Not I, Komrade!

I wonder if you think we are all spying for Russia or that I was singled out and asked to be an agitator here on FR

No, I do not think that you or any other Orthodox here are spying for Russia. The Orthodox relation to Russia is different, although complex.

The question: Are you following the directives from Moscow to agitate for "God's candidate" Yanukovych? should be addressed to jb6. Please read #352 again.

It's just fine with me... I misinterpreted your statement to mean that you didn't know what the KGB was. I do apologize for that.

...every new EU member state must be accepted by all EU countries - we rather don't want to be in any alliance with Russia - at least until Russia become normal civilized country, but it won't happen in near future.

Let's see, once I was accused of being a Serbian militia in disguise posting here. I had to actually ping some freepers here that have met me in order to convince this freeper that I was not Serbian militia.

I wonder if it is because Americans outside the church simply no longer understand the concept of loyalty based on common communion.

I once emailed a Greek priest to reply to a survey and after a few exchanges we rested. Months later, after Pascha had just ended, he emailed me again to tell me he had prayed for our family on Mt. Athos during Pascha. Talking to him in email was like talking to someone I had known much of my life.
I suppose we are unable to understand the way of life outside of the church after a time. What do you think? This is a fascinating subject. Orthodox share a kind of intimacy and loyalty that seems to arouse suspicion in the world.

so you stand by Putin ahead of every other western european nation?

Yoo-hoo!!! Waving arms...

Putin is a member of our church. Therefore we know a great deal about his life, even though he doesn't share it in public with those outside the church. And I stand by Putin, as fellow Orthodox, without one moment of hesitation. Not over every other leader in Europe because the leaders in some other countries are also Orthodox - Bulgaria for instance.

"I wonder if it is because Americans outside the church simply no longer understand the concept of loyalty based on common communion."

Here's the thing, the overwhelming majority Americans, even if they don't believe in God, understand the concept of freedom. And they hate to see it taken away. Wherever it happens.

Russian orthodoxy doesn't trump democracy in my book.

All Orthodoxy trumps anything in this world. Nothing in this world can be taken with you to the next except for your relationship with Christ. Empires and governments rise and fall, only Christ will be there after we die.

So leave your salvation to God. You won't get it through politics.

RUSSIA: Kremlin Doesn't Trust Orthodox Leadership, Says Top Official.

With respect to the Russian president's formal links with the Church, Meyer disapprovingly accused Archimandrite Tikhon of purposely spreading rumours that he was Putin's spiritual father. 'It is absolutely not true,' he maintained, 'neither of Putin nor even of his wife.

Military officers confirm the information about the presence of Russian special forces near Central Election Committee.

A Ukrainian special forces officer made a public statement in the headquarters of the presidential candidate V. Yushchenko, claiming that at the present moment there are Russian special forces dressed in the uniform of Crimean special police. Additionally, there are some persons of 'unidentified origin' dressed in the uniform of Crimean and Donetsk police, who openly admitted they were paid $200-500. They confessed that they do not trust their colleagues from the Central and Western regions of Ukraine, and that they are ready to suppress oppositional protesters. At the same time, police from Western and Central Ukraine said they are equipped only with the means of self-defense and are resolute to protect the protesters.

In the Orthodox church salvation is not an independent issue.
