Hamms disappeared before I began to consume mass quantities. Was it decent?

It was decent for the crap variety. I.E. when being the cheapest beer possible in college, it was a top choice.

No it wasn't any good but the commercial was great. I still remember that Hamms was one of the sponsors for the Chicago Cubs games back in the 60's and that commercial was always played between innings.

Me I like Old Style. "Pure brewed in God's Country".
