The CIA Fights Back
The Daily Standard ^ | 11/15/2004 | Stephen F. Hayes

Posted on 11/15/2004 8:39:13 AM PST by RepCath

ON NOVEMBER 5, 2004, a top aide to new CIA Director Porter Goss warned the associate deputy director of counterintelligence about unauthorized leaks to the media. It was an admonition that might be considered unnecessary: secrecy is a hallmark of the agency and, in any case, such leaks are often against the law. But several officials bristled at the forewarning and after a series of confrontations the deputy director of Operations, Stephen R. Kappes, offered his resignation as a protest.

How do we know about all of this? The details were leaked and appeared Saturday on the front page of the Washington Post. Both the Post and the New York Times ran follow-up stories on Sunday. That evening, CBS News anchor John Roberts was already suggesting a failure, asking reporter Joie Chen, "What went wrong?" And so we have, three months into Porter Goss's tenure at the agency, a full-blown war between the Bush administration and the CIA.

First of all this article does even get the time period right. CIA Director Goss was confirmed on September 22, 2004. That isn't even two months but this article says three months.

If the author cannot get the time period right, then I don't have much faith in the rest of the article!

President Bush needs to clean house at the CIA. Root out those who are disloyal to America. Call it war if you like. Just kick some butt.

McCain Blasts CIA as 'Rogue Agency'
NewsMax.com ^ | 11/14/04 | Carl Limbacher

Sen. John McCain blasted the Central Intelligence Agency on Sunday for its intelligence failures in the war on terror, adding that the nation's premier intelligence service has "in some ways" become a "rogue agency" that has betrayed President Bush.

Commenting on reports that a shake up by newly installed director Porter Goss has prompted a wave of resignations of top CIA brass, McCain told ABC's "This Week": "This is a dysfunctional agency and in some ways a rogue agency. This is the agency that gave the president of the United States - when he asked for information about weapons of mass destruction - said, 'It's a slam dunk.'"

The Arizona Republican accused disloyal elements within the CIA of working to undermine President Bush, complaining that they had engaged in "leaking information that could be damaging to the president prior to the election - using a compliant media, if I may say so."

McCain said that the CIA has also failed in its attempts to gather intelligence on North Korea and Iran, complaining that the U.S. knows little more about those two countries that it did ten years ago.

Addressing reform efforts by Director Goss, McCain said he's "on the right track. He is being savaged by these people who want the status quo and the status quo is not acceptable."

When each of these Carter or Clintoon hate America/GW a$$holes are forced out, they need to sign the secrecy agreement which is standard that any exposure/revelation of what went on in the agencys would be a severe criminal action.

Then when these anti Americans are pushed out and go whining to the Washington Post or NY Slimes, they and the person they whined to get the full impact of this law.

A resignation in protest against policies that have always been in effect, but in recent years ignored, is a good thing.

The others that are offended by the order against leaking to the press, should be encouraged to resign as well. That is the first step to getting control of a politicized agency. The second step is to push out anyone who used their position to try to affect the recent elections. They are not fit to serve.

Hayes is the guy who did most ofthe reporting on the Iraq-bin Laden connection. Made a hell of a lot more sense than the folks who said they couldn't be working together.

In the book 'See no Evil', a CIA case officer noted that during the Clinton years(96), the CIA started to get more and more political and lazy in their work in regards to protecting this country. He said that the FBI was investigating and auditing the CIA more than they were working to find people here in our country. Tons of infighting, and tons of people not doing their jobs.

It's frieghtening.

Case closed. Murray is doing what needs to be done. The place has been a sieve of dishonest and/or illegal leaks and this latest stunt demonstrates the admonition certainly was necessary. (do the reporters even read what they write?)

what more than a few stories leave out is that PG was a member of the CIA - he knows plenty and so does his staff.

When I first heard about McCain's comments I wanted to know if Hell Froze over in DC.

Apparently, he is really ticked about many of those in the CIA. This is a warning to his liberal senator friends that if they try to make big deal of the CIA blood letting, they have to deal with him.

I'm sure that Goss's first targets to flush down and out are the Carterites and Clintoonistas who constantly run to the Washington Compost or NY Slimes to review secrets or to spin a lie like the Plame/Wilson fiasco. As Goss has flushed these clymers out, they are whining to their buddies in the MSM.

The news media is hopping mad about Porter Goss. They are doing everything they can to bring him down. Why? Because he is getting rid of their sources.

As long as the NYT and WP are screaming about the CIA being in disarray, we know he is doing his job.

Hayes did the Case Closed story that was full of intel that had not been filtered for accuracy. It was an irresponsible report.

He was there and was an a real agent. He still has contacts inside who are letting him know who to flush down out into the Rat cesspool.

Today the CIA, tomorrow the State!

The left will make it sound Hitleresque, but Hitler was a leftist, a national socialist.

One thing the left always does, make their enemies look like themselves.

Bush needs to make it into improving management and government.

You have posted an excellent summary of the reaction of the MSM to what Goss has flushed down and out into the Rat Cesspool.

The news media is hopping mad about Porter Goss. They are doing everything they can to bring him down. Why? Because he is getting rid of their sources.

As long as the NYT and WP are screaming about the CIA being in disarray, we know he is doing his job.
