WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Authorities seized an arsenal of weapons and ammunition from the home of the man accused of killing three people and wounding a deputy in his former Forsyth County neighborhood, court papers said.
Denny Carson Booth, 59, of East Bend was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder following Thursday night's shooting spree.
Booth had sold his home in northeast Forsyth County and moved out about a month ago after years of fighting with his neighbor, Dwight Allen, 41. On Thursday, he returned to his old neighborhood armed with a rifle, authorities said.
Booth and shot and killed Allen, Allen's mother-in-law, Reba Idol, 65, and another neighbor, James Johnson, 59, who was a reserve sergeant with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, authorities said.
Johnson's son-in-law, Jeremy Rowley, 33, a sheriff's office corporal who lived nearby, was wounded during a close-contact gunfight with Booth that ended the attacks, Forsyth Sheriff Bill Schatzman said.
Early Friday, officials searched Booth's new home and seized at least 20 firearms of different varieties, several cans of ammunition for various caliber guns, documents, videotapes, bills and photographs, a search warrant said. Among the firearms seized, officials found a fully loaded 9mm pistol, revolvers, rifles and shotguns.
"Our detectives seized evidence that we felt could be related to this investigation." said Lt. Brad Stanley of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies also found a high-powered, semiautomatic rifle, a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition packed in the back of his green Chevrolet pickup at the crime scene.
Booth and Rowley remained in serious condition in the intensive-care unit of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center late Saturday, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.
A hospital nursing spokeswoman said Sunday she had no information about either man. Federal privacy laws allow patients the choice to bar the release of any information about their condition and it's not unusual in police matters to make that choice, hospital spokeswoman Jonnie Rohrer said.

Neighbor dispute turns to murder 11/12/2004 4:37 PM Associated Press Channel 14 News
Ooooo ... a "fully loaded" 9mm pistol! You just KNOW he was a criminal then (sarcasm).
Geez - my gun cabinet has exactly two fewer weapons in it than this guy's so-called "arsenal".
I'm sorry but 20 firearms is not a arsenal. What not even an evil "assault rifle".
No arsenal if he didn' have the 600 pounds of foodstuffs in the basement to go with the guns....
This has to be an Associated Press slant on the story (the reason for the post).
The Sheriff in Forsyth County is a proponent of gun rights. Current NC laws require most weapons to be registered. I'm guessing this guy either had grandfathered guns or did not acquire them "legally".
I'm surprised that anyone with the last name of Booth hasn't had their name legally changed already.

It is considered an arsenal when you go on shooting sprees and kill 3 people.
What does make an arsenal?
ONE!!!! If you use them for mass murder.
I saved this from Free Republic of February 04 and use it often.
40 acres = a farm
40 acres + a gun = a compound
40 acres + a bible + a gun = a cult compound
40 acres + a copy of the federalst papers + a gun = a right-wing militia compound.
Maybe somebody can define "arsenal" in the same way.
Let's be thankful then that Lee Harvey Oswald didn't have an "arsenal".
?????
If that's what's considered an arsenal, then the whole state of NC must be one helluva military base with all the 'collections' I've seen.
The liberal press demonizes any gun owner in possesion of more than one bullet like Barney Fife. Most gun owners buy 500 or 1000 rounds at a pop because it is cheaper plus it is also their right protected by the Constitution.
more than 1 firearm = arsenal

So... AP buries a one-liner in the middle -- about the armed citizen who stood up to this kook, took him out, and, unfortunately, also took a hit.
The proper headline for this story would have been:
Denny Carson Booth
has anyone tried a google search?
You have to get a permit to purchase a gun. Same difference.
No, it isn't. If no permit is required to buy or sell from a private party, then the records are not any kind of paper trail to the firearm, and "registration" is not accomplished. Registration is equivalent to confiscation in that case, because the "authorities" can pick up the firearms whenever they wish.
This is one of the major reasons the anti-freedom types so avidly wish to outlaw private sales via closing the free market in firearms. The anti-freedom types call this the "gunshow loophole".
