Tennesse Post Bill Frist???

Posted on 11/14/2004 3:42:26 PM PST by Aetius

Bill Frist said today on Fox that he was fairly certain he would not seek reelectin in 2006. Hopefully the power of his position as Majority Leader will make him reconsider, but if not, then it begs the question;

Who does the GOP have on deck to run in 2006, most likely against alleged 'moderate' (which usually means liberal when the media uses it so praisingly on someone) Rep Ford?

One rumor is the mayor of Chattanooga.

Ford is a very adept politician, but running in a strongly Red state.

I hope not. Frist was useless in dealing with the Dem's filibusters. He even let them go to the Iowa Caucus when he should have been holding their feet to the fire.

I expect Frist to go to the mattresses against the RAT onstructionists to prove his mettle to conservatives with an eye to 2008.

You may be right, and his mettle will truly be tested once Bush makes a Sup Court nominee (assuming Bush doesn't nominate a Souter), but I was speaking merely to the importance of holding this Senate seat, which Frist could do easily.

I just hope that the GOP has someone who can match the Obama-like treatment that will be affored to Ford by the media.

Wamp is a rock solid conservative. One of the 1994 insurgents.

Could this be sign one of Senator Frist looking toward 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in 2008?

As far as I'm concerned, the Republican Party has a great chance to run a strong, Reagan-like Conservative in '08. If the Dems run Hillary Clinton as everyone expects, we could run the Easter Bunny and win. Hillary can win New York, California, Massachusetts...and that's about it. So let's find someone who will really push the conservative agenda.

Hillary could win about 45% of the vote...I believe that is about her limit..

But he's displayed surprising strength lately and has done an excellent job keeping the pro-amnesty forces in check. Take it from a guy who witnessed him pitching a tantrum upteen years ago because I dared demand he present I.D. before letting him get gas (because rich punks were committing the most drive-offs). It was only a matter of time before he went back to surgery - he's still one of the best heart surgeons in America.

Frist will not run for re-election. In the first place, he said he would only serve two terms. Second, he knows sitting Senators do not with the Presidency, and I fully expect him to run in '08.

Former Rep. Ed Bryant has already said he is running to succeed frist. Bryant is a solid conservative who lost the '02 Senate primary to Sen. Lamar Alexander.

Ed Bryant is also on the list. And I expect Van Hilleary to be on it, too.
