Iris Chang
*local news ping*
That's terrible.
The poor dear. I've read "The Rape of Nanking." I think the research she did would make anyone depressed.
That is too bad. Chang was good for the history profession.
Oh no! My husband loved her books. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
What a shame.
She left behind a husband and a two-year-old.
Pretty woman.
Probably a contract. Japanese old-timers settling a score.
May she R.I.P.
I read the Nanking book. Ugly disgusting subject, but she did good work. Sorry to hear this.
I saw her picture on the cover of World Journal this morning and wasn't sure who it was.
I read her books, except the most recent Chinese in America book. She covered important territory, but got more liberal in her perspective and therefore lost objectivity.
She was killed. Do the math.
She was an ultra liberal and unfortunately had a long history of depression.
This news saddens me greatly. Somehow it does not surprise me.
how sad.. what was this book about?
Goodness, how sad.
I too read her book and what they call "The 2nd Rape of Nanking" is Japan's refusal to take responsiblity. I mean they had contests on who could behead the most Chinese, the Nazi's couldn't even stomach it.
She did good work that was extremely important for the human race. That book insured that atrociety would not go quitely into the night.
I don't know why she would commit suicide but I hope she's in a better place now and knows that she left her mark.
This is very sad...God bless her and her family and friends.
I don't wear a tinfoil hat but I would not totally rule out a murder-made-to-look-like-suicide perpetrated by a faction eager to quash any anti-Japanese sentiment. The book makes the guilt of the Japanese of the time and the cover-up that persists to this day very plain
What a loss. Prayers for her family and friends. Depression is a terrible disorder.
So sad. only 36.. she had a few books left in her.
Sympathy to and a prayer for the family and friends left behind.
What a terrible waste. She was such a smart and beautiful woman. No disrespect intended, but I note none of her friends and family are blaming it on Bush's win.
Sincere condolences to her family and friends. The world has lost a dedicated and eloquent historian.
