A replica of the fishing boat that prosecutors say Scott Peterson used to dispose of his wife's body stirred up emotions and caused a run on floral arrangements Wednesday in Redwood City.
Peterson's attorney Mark Geragos parked the replica boat, complete with a headless dummy tied in duct tape and weighted down with concrete anchors, in the parking lot of an office building he owns a block from the courthouse where jurors are deliberating the case against Peterson.
The defense attorney had used the 14-foot aluminum boat to videotape a re- enactment of someone trying to dump a 150-pound body tied with anchors over its side, and hoped to screen the video for jurors during the trial. The idea was to show that there was no way Peterson could have dumped his wife's body in the bay without taking on a lot of water and perhaps capsizing.
But the judge nixed the idea, and Wednesday, the boat turned into an impromptu memorial to Laci Peterson.
Local residents showed up to stand silently. A young mother wept as she cradled her baby and sat down next to the boat. An elderly woman, who said she'd been adopted by Cherokee Indians, performed an Indian dance.
Others brought signs remembering Laci Peterson and the couple's baby, who was to be named Conner. Then there were less flattering messages apparently directly at Geragos' client, such as the sign that read, "Rot in prison."
"This may have backfired," said Beth Karas, a commentator for Court TV and a former New York prosecutor. "There's no way Geragos intended for this to be a shrine."

Let's strap all the lawyers in, fill the boat with
concrete and sink it to the bottom of the.....

The article quotes someone as saying that she's shocked that Gerigos would stoop so low...
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I hope it does backfire. Geragos is a certifiable low-life. Why is it the scum of society are attracted to being trial lawyers? They aren't in it to bring justice, they just seem to feed and profit off other's misery.
Boat's not big enough;
what's the Queen Elizabeth being used for these days?
Completely evil. Let's call it what it is shall we? It isn't a headless dummy. It's a fake headless pregnant Laci. I hope Laci's mom doesn't see this. Someone attached to the family or the prosecution needs to get in front of a camera and denounce his disgusting tactics. He is making light of what this whole case is about: the murder of a woman and her baby.
Did you notice how fast Gerragos had it towed away when they were fillin' it up with flowers and it became a memorial? So much for makin'a statement, JERK!
:O)

Then, maybe, just maybe, these non-stories will reach the jury and taint their deliberations. (As a former trial lawyer familiar with the tactics of sleazoids like Geragos, I feel 103% certain that this is what Geragos is doing.)
As for that "demonstration" video Geragos had shot, and the judge refused to admit, it is a total fraud. Anyone who has ever been in one of these aluminum runabouts, or the wooden version of same, knows that the boat is most stable at the stern.
Duh. That's where the motor is mounted. Nobody with the least familiarity with such a boat would attempt to dump the body of his wife over the side of the boat. Nor would such a murderer STAND UP while conducting the dumping of the body, as the "demonstration" video shows.
Here's how Scott Peterson dumped his wife's body in San Francisco Bay. 1) He removed the outboard motor and placed it in the bow as a counterweight. 2) Sitting on the thwarts / seats, he inched his wife's body to the stem. 3) He tied one of the concrete anchors to her ankles that were over the stern. (Until used to weight the body, the anchors were kept on the keel of the boat, for stability.) 4) He may have tied an extra anchor around her waist as he continued to slide her body across the transom. 5) He tied the final anchor around her neck, and dropped her into the Bay.
At all times, he remained kneeling or crouching, to maintain the stability of the boat. Any juror with experience with small boats and a measure of common sense will explain that to the other jurors. (Having conducted a few jury trials, I'm sure that this jury was given the standard instruction to "use your common sense in your deliberations." That is routine.)

Thanks. I didn't even see that, I went and read the whole thing just now after you said that. Glad to read there were also signs written to Scott to "rot in hell." Backfired, indeed.
"If the boat don't fit, you must acquit"?
Make that "rot in prison"... wishful thinking on my part. ;)
Anyone got a report card on Geragos' track record in court? Hasn't he blown the major cases he was representing?
Yet he's treated like some big shot attorney?
Kind of like the adoration we're hearing for that dead terrorist scumbag in Paris today.
Congressman...
I can tell you, without hestitation or embellishment, that you can remove a 192 lb MAN from a 14 ft aluminum boat such as Peterson has, even against his will. So, it would not be unreasonable to assume that Peterson could remove Laci without a fight. I have done it many times to my Brother and friends and they to me!

He kept Winona Ryder out of the Electric Chair.
Geragos the idiot claimed he was "storing the boat on private property." Arrgghh. Just HOW STUPID does he think people are?
He should be disbarred for this stunt.
Yet he's treated like some big shot attorney?
Ever heard of a classy dame named Susan McDougal?
Surely you remember the touching scene of St. Sue shuffling off to the hoosegow in chains because she would not testify before the Whitewater jury.
Her attorney was Mark Geragos.
Some would say he "won" that one since she never did testify. Of course he established exactly who and what he is with that case.
Oh, almost forgot, he represented the esteemed Roger Clinton once, too.
