In the notorious tradition of the "175ers" among the Nazi leadership, Arafat led an incredibly dissolute life. It was his dissolution that ultimately resulted in his contraction of AIDS, the disease that led to his death outside Paris yesterday. As with so many basic facts about this utterly vile human being, the truth (although baldly reported by Oriana Fallaci in the fall of 1981) remains shrouded in myth, deception and outright lies.
Late in his life Arafat took a wife for the purpose of keeping up appearances in a culture that loathes homsexuality. While his wife and political epigones fought over the billions he had stolen from his supposed beneficiaries, the scene of his death at a French military hospital outside Paris came to resemble a protracted farce befitting a second-rate Hollywood comedy. On the other hand, in an episode worthy of Kafka or Orwell, Arafat won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1994.

That would explain his "wife's" absence for the past 3 years - I would not want to get near a diseased slug like that either --- clinton did though!
Not sure what Arafat died of, but it would NOT be surprising if it were AIDS that killed him. Arafat has been blocking the road to peace. I pray that his passing will give others the strength and honor to do the right thing and end the war between the Palastinians and Israelis. Arafat was an enemy to humanity. I hope he rots in hell.

Arafat died of AIDS. Period.
Right now, the propaganda is all that Arafat was oh so good. When the whole world figures out that he died from AIDS/HIV and the Arab community absorbs that reality, the shame emanating from that will stink worse and worse. Afafat's death from AIDS will bring him down from the mythic figure he is now in the Arab world.

Suspicions grow that Arafat is dying of AIDS
I heard he was gay but he didnt look like someone who had AIDS to me. They are wasted away to skin and bones and he didnt look like that.
It seems to me that Arafat's wife (read "beard") is a possible hinderance to his memory. If I were her (I shudder at the thought), I'd be worried and very careful..........

His wife lived apart from him to not have to live in the ruins of his compound in Ramallah. She also had children with him (maybe with him)
I don't know about the AIDS part though. Possibility. His wife is a pretty young blonde (died I'm sure) but with $100,000 to flit around Paris with, she may have taken the old coot.
If he had AIDS, I don't think he could've lived to 75. However, he did have a lot of money at his disposal.

What is really bizarre is that no one is questioning what Arafat died of. There is a total lack of media curiosity. How can we be sure that his henchmen didn't poison him if the media aren't curious?

He looked to me like someone any gay man would run away from...really, really fast.
