Right-Wing Party Declared Illegal in Belgium [John Derbyshire]

In a nasty little example of what the Left would like to do to anyone that refuses to toe the PC line, a Belgian court has just ruled Vlaams Blok "racist," effectively making the party illegal.

Vlaams Blok is the most popular party in Flanders (the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium). Last June they got almost a quarter of the votes in regional elections. The Belgian establishment hates them, however, since they have at various times advocated (a) the secession of Flanders from Belgium, (b) the repatriation of non-European immigrants.

The lights are going out all over Europe…

Court Rules Vlaams Blok is Racist
Belgium's highest court has ruled that the Flemish far-right Vlaams Blok party is racist.

The ruling means the Blok will lose access to state funding and access to television which will, in effect, shut down the party.

The Blok was appealing against a court ruling which stated that it was guilty of violating anti-racism legislation.

Recent opinion polls suggest the Vlaams Blok is the most popular party in the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders.

It garnered almost a quarter of votes in regional and European elections in June.

The party campaigns on an anti-immigration platform.

It also wants independence for Flanders, home to five million Flemish speakers.

Party chairman Frank Vanhecke said he was shocked at the ruling.

"Exactly 15 years after the Berlin Wall came down and the people of East Germany and eastern Europe regained their freedom, it was confirmed today that in the Belgian state, democracy and freedom of speech are under threat," he said.

It's worse than I thought over there. Sad, very sad. I wonder if this is a direct result of the massive loss of life from the two world wars. Maybe the manly gene was nearly wiped out.

When leftists run democracies, freedom is always conditional. This was a bad move, the court won't stop Euros from organizing to take back their homelands. A move like this is evidence of the weakness of the leftists who run the EU.

The VB will appeal.

Failing that, they can disband and change their name to the VlaamsPartij, rejigger the language in their platform and run the same list.

The legal hassle would probably help them, since they are considered the "rebel" party anyway.

Not a big surprise, the is the country that pushed for war crimes trials of American soldiers. Seems pretty simple tho - restart a new party called Blams! Blok. Same platform, different name. No big deal.

So the Walloons are "people of color" now?

I thought it was the Walloons (the "Rexists") who were the fascists. Besides, they have the Throne, so they rule over the Flemings.

Oh well. If Darwinists can weep at the death of the culture of Sitting Bull I suppose a reactionary monarchy can declare itself "non-white."

I lived for a year in Belgium in the 1988-1989 time frame. I was actually assaulted by a Vlams Blok punk because I spoke English. Still I enjoyed the Beer and the culture and the Fritten.

Maybe the manly gene was nearly wiped out.

All kidding aside, but I've heard that before. That the two WW had a kind of dis-eugenic effect, killing off not only the hyper/barbaric aggressive but the "regular"* aggressive type leaving the bulk of the survivors the moderate, the cautious, and the timid.

Note that the party had already moderated their view, which originally called for the expulsion of all non-white immigrants. Too bad, really, because that would have solved a number of Belgium's most pressing problems.

This will backfire this party will gain voters. People are sick and tired of unelected black robes telling us what to think.

Liberalism over there is turing reality upside down. Making everything that was normal, abnormal. As Thomas Sowell explains, seeking cosmic justice. Trying to use government to change the cosmos.

This is true Socialism at work.

This is what the Democratic Party is morphing into.

Old time Democrats, who vote reflexively just as their parents had done, have little idea that they are voting for Socialists under a different label.
