Area church target of vandals
By CAROLYNN BRIGHT - IR Staff Writer - 11/03/04
Rev. B.G. Stumberg doesn't think that gay and lesbian marriages should be recognized by law and he emphasizes that, in a free country, it's his right to hold that belief.
However, since he shared his opinions on CI-96 with the media recently, he's learned that not everyone agrees with that philosophy and his parish at the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church paid the price for that.
On Tuesday, Stumberg arrived at the church to find that vandals had spray-painted several phrases on the walls of the church and a bus belonging to the parish.
They read, "Satan Killer" and "Your evil" (sic).
Stumberg added that he has received several pieces of hate mail since he aired his opinions, and political signs endorsing CI-96 have been stolen from his home in addition to those of his parishioners.
"I've never had a piece of hate mail or vandalism to church property like this," he said, explaining that he believes a direct correlation exists between his comments in the newspaper and the vandalism.

This was on page 5 I think...a few years ago a couple of lesbians in Missoula had some vandalism, and it was on the front page of every newspaper, and the lead story on every news cast. The FBI investigated it.
do you know what happened with the complaint?
in Montana? wow. The freaks are everywhere. How dare they kill Satan, his followers do not like that =o)
The church counter sued the State for overstepping the separation of church and state!
The state is still "investigating" the charges.

Let me know if you want on or off the homosexual agenda ping list.
"Your evil"
Spells like some of us FReepers.
Yes. Only look at our President himself, as a source of inspiration.
God will justify the good and righteous. Leave it in His hands.
The vandalism was a couple of fake anthrax letters, followed up by the "couple" having their house burnt down. Their stories apparently didn't add up, and the investigation eventually turned its focus on the couple. The PC police found "insufficient evidence" for prosecution, and the case was closed last year. Interestingly, the couple moved to Ann Arbor shortly after the fire, and there have been no further reports of any such "hate crimes". Total conincidence, I'm sure. The "real criminal" probably just saw the error of his ways. Kinda like the "real killer" in the O.J. case...
I don't know if you heard any Rush today, but he had a liberal teacher lady on today who was a classic. I couldn't hear the whole conversation (he kept her for a while, he likes to play with liberals) but she directly said that any criticism of homosexuality is hate speech that is born of homophobia and hatred.
This is the next step. No criticism. Or we're evil homophobes causing "gay bashing" and hate crimes with our vile speech.
After the successes this week, I'm starting to think that maybe the tide has turned and that the "gay" agenda promoters are going to eventually self-destruct. It will be good fun.
(Note - I wasn't real happy with Rush's response to her, or the fact that he keeps calling homosexuals "gays". A while ago he started calling them homosexuals, but he's reverted. I hope it's because he's trying to reach out to fence sitters...)
According to Stumberg, neither he nor the members of his church dislike homosexuals. In fact, gays and lesbians are more than welcome at the Canyon Ferry Road Baptist Church.
Stumberg says he doesn't agree with their way of life, but he doesn't agree with the choices of adulterers or drunkards either.
"You go right down the line of sins and I've got them in my church," he said. "We try to help them change their lifestyle."
Stumberg said members of his parish attempt to extend the love of Christ to everyone with whom they come into contact even people who don't agree with their opinions on issues.
Sola Veritas now writing. Seems to me this fellow has his head on pretty straight. I see no hypocrisy, just Christian folk trying to pull others out of the fire.
Let me tell folks something, that I don't think most can understand. I believe homosexuality to be a vile sin - as I also do adultery. I believe that people that live such a lifestyle without repentance or remorse cannot possible be Christians. I believe that if you are not a Christian, you will wind up in hell. I don't want anyone to go to hell. I would like to see all repent and come to Jesus and be saved from sin and hell.
Thus, anything in the law that would in any way legitimize homosexuality (or adultery for that matter) is a bad thing to me because it stands as an implement to the homosexual realizing his/her sinful way. Therefore, I oppose granting homosexuals the legitimacy of "marraige" or even "civil unions." Not to punish them or persecute them, but to simply not in any way bear a responsibility for letting a sinner go unimpeded to hell. It makes me accountable for them.
The same is true of abortion. If I allow my government to continue to allow the murder of the yet born, I have those children's blood on my hands as well. For you see, I am my brother's keeper -whether he likes it or not.
Spray paint cans should come with spell checker...

Yes, I too think they will self destruct, if not in this life then after it. However, I also think that if I don't warn them and try my best to stop them, their blood is on my hands.
She was horrible and said a number of things that were quite wrong. I would have cut her microphone many times.
I wasn't too pleased with Rush's response either, but not everybody is fully informed on the issues - I was thinking of writing Rush (along with millions of others!).
I really need to get the next version (1.2) of the database out. There is so much information in the newest revision...
"If you can't admit to sin it's hard to come to the place where God can lead you."
So very true. You can't be saved until your are first a sinner. We are all sinners, the saved just have become sensible enough to realize this is true.
They (the G & L s) probably think that any church with "Ferry" in its name should admit them.
You are right. If we are not compassionate to them - about their suffering now, and after this life has passed - then our hardheartedness will be weighed against us.
There are so many young people who are their potential prey - not just those who might decide they are "gay" - but those whose sense of morality is in jeopardy.
When I said "fun" - it is the giddiness of victory.
