THE US election has resolved a wavering American agenda for the next four years by reflecting the resolve of the American people.
A record turnout of voters in the US election has given a mandate to President George W. Bush for a second term. It reflects a similar majority for Australia's Howard Government and the possibility of a third term for Tony Blair's Government in Britain.
What the Australian and American elections have done and what the forthcoming British election is likely to do is show the resolve of a majority to finish what their leaders started.
Voters have accepted a responsibility for bringing stability to Iraq in the war against terrorism.
Iraq was the biggest issue in the US election although exit polls say the President's opposition to gay marriages and stem-call research secured his victory by bringing out socially conservative voters.
Even so, Iraq was increasingly seen in the broader strategy of resolving conflict in the Middle East and Asia. Nuclear weapons do exist in Iran and North Korea.
Mr Bush's re-election will bring further changes in its defence strategy with Australia.
Australia and the US will engage more closely in the war against terrorism but must follow the dictates of defence through regional relationships and not the threatof pre-emption.
Iraq dominated the American election and while his detractors say he won in spite of it, it was not as visible an issue when Australia went to the polls.
No Australian body bags were brought home from combat and voters were able to concentrate on an economy they saw as best managed by the Coalition.
Mr Bush has not done so well in America.
The re-elected President must restore an economy running record deficits, as well as moving to rebuild relationships with other countries, including those in Europe.
Senator John Kerry's message to the American people was heartfelt but confused. A similar ambiguity was shown by Labor in the Australian election.
There are new responsibilities for re-elected leaders, but the people have spoken clearly.
Yes. To become a moral conservative is to heal.
The heck with that. We won, we call the tune they have to dance to.
Errr, excuse me, but the ECONOMY IS NOT running RECORD deficits!!!!!!!!!
The United States Congress and President Bush are running the deficits. NOT the economy. The economy is moving along nicely. Unemployment is down. The economy does not create these deficits.
What is all this talk about 'healing' I feel fine!
You only need healing if you are sick. I don't see any sickness. I see a healthy, hale and hearty country making wise choices.
Healing, nothing. It's time for payback for the last twelve years of debauchery and hate.
I agree it's time for healing. Time for Michael Moore, and all the other Hollywood idiots to stop bashing Bush 24/7. Also to stop claims of voter disenfranchisement, and "selected not elected." And all the crap about Halliburton and Bush's links to Ken Lay, that are repeated ad nauseum in the absence of anything that would even suggest it's true. It's time for liberals to stop comparing Republicans to Nazis. Yep, it's definately about time for the healing to begin.
Heal this.
Does anyone remember, when Clinton won in 92 and the Democrats controlled all three branches of Gov't, talk by the MSM about reaching out to Republicans?
Clinton did not even meet with the Republican leaders after he was sworn in figuring he could govern without any imput from the them.
Wait...healing? Time for HEALING?? I thought it was time to turn the Middle East into a parking lot. A big parking lot, where we can send Haliburton tankers to get our oil. just a little joke for DUers lurkin:)
Healing schmealing. The enemy is weakened. It's time to crush it.
Yes ! We need to Heal from all the wounds they tried to do to our President and country! We will not negotiate with terrorist and libs. They owe Bush an apology. We won .We set the agenda. If they want to come along then fine.If they dont.Screw em!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you noticed that all the talking heads and their guests are talking about what Bush HAS to do now that he has won.
IMO, he has to "stay the course". Nothing but.
Taking time out to "heal" is for p*ssies. Liberal girliemen take time out to "heal". Suck it up wus.
To the world: We, the American people, made it clear where we stand. We stand with Bush. We are not going anywhere.
Pain is just weakness leaving the body.
And spend some capital.
