Eighteen RATS up for reelection in 2006. Five need to go to get to 60 GOP Senators.

Who will they be?

5 from that list looks tough, but what do I know?

That would be great, but very hard to do. We need to get more
out of the ones we have, especially in the Judical appointments. I have not seen enough fight from them.

Dayton is the most obvious target.

My guesses.

D. Feistein
T. Kennedy
R. Byrd
D. Akaka
Paul Sarbanes
and
H. Kohl
retire
All could be pickups for the GOP.

Dayton, Nelson, Stabenow, Clinton (If Rudy runs), Cantwell (if Dunn runs), Conrad (if we get a popular ND Gov to run), Carper (If Mike Castle runs)

I'm very disappointed we could not even seriously oppose Byron Dorgan in a 60% Bush state.

The GOP should start trying to beat Kent Conrad TODAY.

I think Dayton and Cantwell are vulnerable.

Rudy, I think, wants the Big Job.

I can't believe we can't spread some Thune magic to ND.

Yeah but Conrad seems pretty clever. He's positioned himself as a fiscal conservative hasn't he? I don't know. I just didn't see huge opportunities on that list. But we shall see.

YES YES YES. We can start by calling Senator if they are a Democrat and pressuring them to call Kerry to concede immediately. We should watch EVERY MOVE THEY MAKE. They must be scared stiff after this election.

Ted retire?

He'll only come out of the Senate in a coffin.

I live in Maryland and I actually cannot prove that Paul Sarbanes is any more alive than Elvis. I honestly think I've forgotten what he looks like. He literally has a less than zero profile.

Sarbanes is conceivably beatable but only by a Black Republican, I think.

I think we got enough now to force through judicial appointments...they can change the rules of the senate
re judicial filibusters.

Since they don't have to carry the rinos.

Unfortunately, most of those names represent very safe seats. That's why I'm SO glad all the breaks (except Coors in CO) went our way tonight. We needed it. 2006 Senate races don't look like a treasure trove of pickups for Republicans. Maybe Ben Nelson will flip?

Agreed.

Perhaps Frist will now show some guts and force the issue.

IMO, today is the first day of the "Dump Hillary in '06" movement".

If she loses her senate seat, she has no national standing from which to mount her attack on the WH in 08.

DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! DUMP HILLARY '06!! Mike Rogers or Candice Miller will make things awfully tough on Stabenow in Michigan. Same goes for Bill Nelson v. Katherine Harris (though I'd love for Joe Scarborough to run for this seat).

We'll also probably have to defend a few open seats (possibly TN,IN,TX,UT), but they're all red states and provide excellent opportunities to make the senate more conservative.

Five need to go to get to 60 GOP Senators.

Possibly six, depending whether Chafee switches parties or goes independent. He is up for relection in 2006, after all, and he may want to try to innoculate himself.
