To cries of "Death to America" and "God is Greatest" Iran's hardline-dominated parliament passed a bill on Sunday obliging the government to continue efforts to develop a civilian nuclear energy program.
The proposal, backed by 247 of parliament's 290 lawmakers, did not specifically force the government to resume uranium enrichment or end snap U.N. inspections of atomic facilities as some lawmakers had called for.
But the outline bill approved on Sunday could incorporate such suggestions during subsequent discussions, lawmakers said in a session broadcast live on state radio.
"This is the voice of parliament, the voice of the Iranian nation," Parliament Speaker Gholamali Haddadadel said after the bill was approved.
"The message of this bill is that we will not give in to pressure ... The Iranian nation is determined to use peaceful nuclear technology," he said.
The European Union has called on Iran to freeze uranium enrichment -- a process that can be used for nuclear power or to make atomic bombs -- before the next meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Nov. 25.
Failure to do so could see Iran's case referred to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions.
Iran denies U.S. charges it is secretly building nuclear weapons and says it will press ahead with all aspects of its nuclear programme in order to generate electricity from atomic reactors to meet booming demand.
They declared a defacto war on us in 1979 by taking the hostages, they ought to mind their "Ps" and "Qs" before they find themselves eating Mars bars in a "spider hole"
What the heck are "Ps" and "Qs" anyways? Anyone?
The Iranians are in a panic - they need to act quickly before W gets re-elected.
The handwriting is on the wall, and it's becoming more & more clear.
It's true - don't mess with TEXAS! (nor anyone who comes from there!)
Are we at the Cilician Gates, yet?
I believe that it has to do with old fashioned type setting, where you chose type out of a box (whose name I don't remember). Since the type faces read backwards, it was easy to mistake a lower case p for a lower case q.
That's the way I recall it, anyway.
Never fear, citizen! Kerry will bravely go crying to the United Nations and ask that they defend America because he himself cannot without passing a "global test"!
And if that doesn't work, he'll tell John Edwards to file a lawsuit after Iran attacks us.
Hm... that's odd... what does this peaceful nuclear energy project have to do with "death to America?" And why would such an oil-rich country need nuclear energy? Golly gee... things that only a genius like John Kerry will ever be able to figure out. Simple-minded folk like me tend to think they just want to nuke us to kingdom come, and that's silly, isn't it? I mean, just because they're chanting "Death to America" doesn't mean they actually MEAN it, right? Heck, it's probably just the name of some Iranian punk rock band they all like.
The guy just doesn't have the guts to make a tough decision and stand by it.
The Iranian parliament expands nuclear program, and says: "death to America."
In a more rational world this would be THE basis for pre-emptive war.
(I'm not optimistic the internal demonstrations are strong enough to take control of Iran away from the mad-mullahs.)
The election of John Kerry makes war with Iran more likely because he lacks personal credibility. Since kerry cannot sKerry the Iranians, he cannot deter them. His election makes a diplomatic solution more difficult and less likely.
When diplomacy fails, Kerry is less likely to chose war and so these 11 century crazies will get the atomic bomb.
May God help us then.
Bush has flately stated he will not permit them to develop a bomb.
Yet one more reason why we should have invaded Iran from Afghanistan and Iraq while Israel took out Syria and their puppets in Lebanon. It would have all been over very quickly, and our soldiers wouldn't be having near the amount of trouble they are getting from the "insurgents" who are pouring over the boarders of Syria and Iran.
BTW, we can all thank Russia (our "ally" in the War on Terror) for building Iran's nuclear capability...not to mention smuggling Iraqi explosives (and WMD?) into Syria and nearby.

These guys were all together in one room at one time,.....
What would 4 or 5 cruise missles have done to this building? One on each corner and one in the middle and Iran and the free world would be a lot better off yes?
Just a thought.
Pints and Quarts in old England.
Their time is coming and they know it. Unless, of course, JFKerry steals the election.
In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them to mind their own pints and quarts and settle down. It's where we get the phrase "Mind your P's and Q's."
You know, like there's a sensitive way of dealing with people like this short of total anihilation in a thermonuclear holocaust.
Don't worry. Those chants of Death to America will cease when Kerry gives the Islamo-freaks nuclear fuel.
THAT`S RIGHT! Thanx for the reminder.
The only thing "defacto" about this war is that the US has not joined it. I'm sure that will change in President Bush's second term.
