In case everyone hasn't heard, Brad Carson, the Okie dem running for US Senate, has made another statement that is not beholden to the truth. The statement, or claim, he's made is that he's endorsed by the NRA and Dr. Tom Coburn isn't.
The truth is that the NRA is playing weenie politics again and hasn't endorsed the true 2nd amendment candidate in this race, Dr. Tom Coburn.

What is it about this that isn't surprising?
Perhaps these guys could be persuaded to hold a news conference immediately after the OU/OSU game or something...
PhiKapMom, I know you've been all over this story. The ads are so false they are laughable but we don't want the naive falling for them.
Mrs. Sooner is so mad about this act of political cowardice on the NRA's part that we're about to resign the NRA and give the dues to the GOA and LEAA.

Mr. Sterious is the same. We are longtime members of the NRA, and their desire to remain "neutral" in this race is baffling.
No operator when I called, just a recording saying to call back Monday.
Yesterday, however, Carson mailers started showing up that had the claim that he's been endorsed by the NRA, and Dr. Coburn has not. This is just "not a true statement", and the NRA needs to be put on notice that push has come to shove.
I know, I got one of them, and a phone call just like it. I fired off a letter (mailed today) to the address on the mailer telling them to take me off their mailing list. I told the phone caller to take me off their calling list. Actually, this might backfire on them--they're so obnoxious, it's turning a lot of people off.
Statement from Chris W. Cox, NRA Chief Lobbyist and NRA-PVF Chairman, on Oklahoma Senate Race
Friday, October 29, 2004
FAIRFAX, VA - The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) gave A ratings to both Tom Coburn and Brad Carson in the Oklahoma Senate race. However, neither candidate received the endorsement for the general election.
The Oklahoma Democratic Party has a mailing to Oklahoma gun owners and hunters with misleading information concerning an NRA-PVF endorsement. This is a blatant attempt to mislead Oklahoma voters.
The Oklahoma Democratic Party must cease and desist this campaign of deception. The NRA remains neutral in this race thus far, but reserves the right to get involved if our position continues to be distorted.

This is nothing but cowardice and collaboration on the part of the NRA. They need to turn it around before it's too late.
Easley (D) is claiming NRA endorsement here in NC. For those who don't know... John Edwards was elected in North Carolina because their campaign strategy was to paint his opponent VERY conservative opponent as a liberal. It works... Now Ballentine (R) is being painted as a liberal and Easley (D) is touting an NRA endoresment.
I can smell Carville from here.
This reminds me of the current Carson ad where in the background you see Dale Earnhardt Jr's trademark #8 on the back of an SUV window very clearly. A sublte but clear message that Dale Earnhrdt Jr somehow endorses Carson and a weak attempt to get NASCAR dads to vote for Carson.
I wonder if Dale Earnhardt Incorproated knows about this and would ask Carson to remove it from the ad?
This campaign has been terrible! I am sitting here wearing my Sooners for Bush Cheney on the front and Sooners for Coburn on the back shirt!
Carson is pure slime! NRA is also a bunch of wimps if you ask me!
Good for you guys -- about time to tell the NRA here in OK they can stuff it! They should have immediately bought airtime to debunk Carson!
I was able to reach a real live person at this no: 1-877-672-2000. That was in the Membership Account Info division. They will give you the no. for the ILA which is closed until Monday, but I don't think it hurts for them to get a sense for what's going on here.
The NRA has been surprisingly wimpy this year, as you said. I wonder why? It's been a disappointment.
NRA backstabbed the conservative candidate in NJ and allowed McGreevy to claim the NRA mantle on a false promise.
The NRA is a one issue organization. If both candidates rate an "A" then the obvious thing to do is to withhold endorsement, that way they win no matter who wins.
Further, they have to keep their eye on the future and make sure they send the right signals to all their "water-carriers" everywhere -- "as long as you rate an 'A' with us, we will never endorse your opponent."
That does not make them "wimpy," it makes them politically savy.
-- Sometimes it will work against your favorite candidate. Sometimes it will work for your favorite candidate. As far as the "one issue" (see, there is that term again) is concerned the important thing is to keep those candidates rating "A."
Well, for starters it's "savvy".
In the second place, this isn't a matter of whom they endorse or don't endorse. I didn't complain about them trying to remain neutral in this race, although I didn't agree with it. (Note that I explained that in my original post.)
I have a big problem with them allowing one of the candidates to get away with a "false statement" that involves them, and allowing themselves, and myself, to be spoken for falsely.
Do not understand the NRA at all this year! Sure do miss Charlton Heston at his prime!
Did not realize they had done that in NJ -- that's unbelieveable.
Carson lied and the NRA should have paid to run an ad here saying he lied about the NRA.
