What I meant was has it been reported that she is actually being paid 4 million or any money at all?

O'Reilly's lawyer, Ronald Green, issued a statement Thursday saying both sides "regret that this matter has caused tremendous pain, and they have agreed to settle. All cases and claims have been withdrawn, and all parties have agreed that there was no wrongdoing whatsoever by Mr. O'Reilly, Ms. Mackris, or Ms. Mackris' counsel, Benedict P. Morelli & Associates."

his wife settled when she agreed to be his wife.

I don't like him and haven't liked him since the first time i saw him several years ago.

I don't like arrogant, condescending snobs talking down to me...I'm not einstein, but i'm not "goober" either.

that is why i have hated the network news for so long..they always felt that we were so stupid, we had to listen to whatever was going on and then listen to them tell us what we had just heard.

I hated that and stopped listening to the alphabets a very long time ago.

I don't know.

What they reported on Catherine Crier may not have played a part in the settlement at all.

I personally can't look at him the same way now. I don't care if she set him up, and it was totally consensual. I bet his wife is devastated.

Did you see his statement just now? "I had to protect my family." Huh?

Fox's liability insurance carrier will probably pick up the tab. I don't think O'Reilly had much say in the matter.

A very interesting point. I read somewhere that Fox washed their hands of it and told BOR that any settlement would have to come out of his pocket. I don't know if it's true, but it stuck in my mind. My argument of proof of wrongdoing on BOR's part is that a settlement like this is out of character. The insurer's interest and influence is something I hadn't considered and am intrigued by.

$4 million? If that's true, O'Reilly appears to be about as innocent as Michael Jackson. Innocent men don't shell out that kind of cash.

O'Reilly worships the Kennedy's and in the Kennedy tradition he bought his victim's silence. Although I can't say that she was a victim anymore than Monica was a victim. Maybe one should say that old Bill just paid off his bill for phone sex, after all a mega star like Bill can't expect to use the 900 numbers like ordinary perverts. Perverts as big as O'Reilly have to have their phone sex bill settled by big name shysters. If what I read in Drudge was true, maybe he should charge it off to publicity and promotion since his ratings are up by a third. That Clinton crowd will up your ratings because it sure does love its perverts. Do not be surprised if Lanny Davis turns up on the Factor giving old Bill an ego massage. I would not be surprised if Dickie Morris is not filling in old Bill on the pleasures of toe sucking, although I doubt if that is old Bill's game after reading the court filings one must believe that it is impossible for O'Reilly to ever shut his big mouth even during a sexual act.

It just seems out of character to me for him to settle if she couldn't drag him through the mud in a way where a lot of it would stick. I view this settlement as an admission of some wrongdoing on his part. This 'saving my family' thing is wimpish. I have no ax to grind with BOR. I liked him a lot for a long time and think he's done a lot of good, like the Red Cross and Hollywood charity expose after 9/11. But I do think he's as much of an opportunist as Kerry.

Nowhere that's credible. It's mindless speculation by people who know not of what they speak.

We have no way of knowing what she settled for. O'Reilly and Fox were desperately trying to suppress the tapes. He's a bad boy who likes to talk about sex with women he's not married to.

If Michael Jackson had settled with that kid for only a couple of million, then I would have been more likely to think he was innocent. But $20 million isn't chump change, even to Michael Jackson. He bought that kid off.

$4 million to Fox News/Bill O'Reilly/their liability carrier IS chump change. $4 million is "go away kid, you bother me," money, not "oh please take this money so you won't tell on me!" money.

That's not to say O'Reilly isn't an a$$ of a husband and/or boss, but I think this whole thing reeks of something totally consensual, and a young woman scorned and trying to hit way above her weight.

Thanks, I was going crazy trying to figure out where that was coming from--some people seem to be taking it to heart though! Does money have to change hands in order to settle or can they just agree to drop everything and call it a settlement?

They can settle without money changing hands, but I'm going to mindlessly speculate that some money changed hands, with most of it paying the lawyers, leaving the chick with enough to get her out of the near insolvency she's reportedly in. And I'm also going to mindlessly speculate that the settlement is contingent on both sides keeping the details private, and if she ever does any "tell-all" book, or whatever, Mr. Bill will own her.
