Americans United today asked the Internal Revenue Service to investigate events that appeared to be efforts to boost the candidacy of Sen. John F. Kerry at two churches in "swing states" on Oct. 24.

Is this the Barry Lynn group? If so I am stuned.
Finally!!! Let's see this has been going on for Clintons election, Kerrys campaign....yes, I guess the IRS NEEDS to finally step in and clarify...
well, FINALLY!!!!
Fear not everything is on the up and up I'm sure </sarcasm>
not to worry. this is just for show. AU is part of the partisan left.
Two churches out of about 10,000.
I think americans united must have felt some pressure to do this because Bill Donoghue's Catholic League and others have already brought these affairs to the attention of the IRS.
Donoghue believes that ALL churches should be free to say whatever they like. I agree. But it looks as if fighting against the double standard is the best way to show up the hypocrisy of liberal judges who have tried to disenfranchise Christians.
SP, this might answer the question you had yesterday.
Asking the IRS to look into it is like asking your dog to go get you a beer. It isn't going to happen.
Just a thought... This is not my area of expertise by any means. Do you think the intent is to create a secular society and this organization has no real loyalty to the Democrats? They will use any case to further their goal. Barry Lynn's group typically receives favorable treatment from the Democrats.
You missed one important difference - Dogs can be trained. IRS agents, well, that's a whole 'nother thang...
Yep. Because they accuse Religious Right activists of being eager to transform houses of worship into political machines, I thought it was important to file complaints with them and challenge them to take action against those on the left.
This has been happening far too long...Our church is so very careful not to come out and support one over another...They say, educate yourself, read your Bible and pray...It's about time...But these things take what? years?
My personal opinion is that the problem is having an income tax. No income tax, no income tax exemption, lots of free speech. But in the mean time, the politicians preaching from the pulpits has to stop. Of course I only see one side doing it, probably because until now only one side could do it and get away with it.
Thanks for filing this.
HAHAHAH yep probably so.......
I'm glad there is some movement in the right direction. The Dems have gotten away with creating their own rules far too long. However, this should involve the IRS for the churches tax exempt status, but shouldn't this go to the ACLU tho I despise them. It seems they're the group who jump up and scream if there is anything they don't like in a school; so why not a church, or in this case, many churches.
BTTT
It will go nowhere. They ('Rats and AU) did the same thing in 2000 and the IRS apparently saw nothing wrong with it.
So just "hope" that they will...
I know a few old red neck white guy IRS agents and they are not the liberal step and fetch affirmative action government union types...and they have a secret yearning to get the likes of Jesse Jackson and these "church groups that are used as political action groups", really really bad.
It'll never happen. Feds are terrified of being labled "racist", so black churches are free to do all of the illegal things they do without worry. Our pastor has to watch every word he says to comply with the law. It would be nice if there were repercussions for the blatant violations of the law, but it just won't happen.
