Not since the election of 1800, the first in which one party displaced another from the presidency, has there been such anxiety about voting. In 1800 there were fears that the losing side would resort to arms. Today's worry concerns a cloud of locust-like lawyers asserting novel theories that purport to demonstrate that sensible rules, such as requiring voters to have identification, are illegal, even unconstitutional.

Actually, the "resorting to arms thing" isn't that far from the truth this time either. I think some leftists have already resorted to it, in a manner of speaking.

George F. Will has never and does not now write "liberal BS". He is a Conervative's Conservative. Granted, the Washington Post is not the Washington Times, but even the WA-PO prints connservative columnists from time to time. Consider the author and not the paper.

The RNC sends me solicitation letters by the mailbox full. I send them back with the statement "Do something about voter fraud, then get back to me."

I am just sick and heart broken by the obvious fraud going on anymore. Why shouldn't you have to show a valid ID to vote and why can't the voter rolls be purged and updated each election cycle? MoodyBlu

If/when the President is re-elected, and if we pick up more seats in the House and Senate [hopefully to total 74-76 Republican], then the President and the majority in Congress get together to do a better job of a complete overhaul and standardization of voting nation-wide.

Something way more comprehensive than that lame and ineffective "Help America Vote Act (H.A.V.A.) that did nothing to prevent fraud and standardize the registration and machines nation-wide. From voter registration to voting machines. It cannot be left up to state judges deciding the same rules differently in their states. It cannot be left to the counties and local precincts anymore to decide, based on their party affiliations or political leanings as to how they are going to do things to gain the most for their party.

Look at the disputed counties/precincts in Florida: the went from punch-card machines with hanging chads to very expensive electronic touch-screen machines with electronic or "ether" ballots that are only on a server. No possibility for a manual recount required by the state law in case of a close or disputed election.

Remember the counties/precincts that had no problems? The used the relatively inexpensive optical scan paper ballots that you mark with a pen. How simple, inexpensive and efficient can you get when it comes to machines, ease and simplicity of casting your ballot and rock-solid way for a manual recount?
