Illinois shenanigans

Posted on 10/20/2004 4:55:46 PM PDT by Ellen

What is going on in Illinois? I heard from my brother, who lives in Belvedere (north of Rockford) that yesterday he rec'd in the mail a notice that he could mail in his vote. It said that all he had to do was record his vote on that notice and mail it in to the address provided. He is registered Republican and this sounds like a scam to me. Wasn't there a deadline for absentee ballots? He never requested an absentee ballot and this came in the mail just like other 'junk mail'. How many idiots will fall for that and then not show up to vote because they think they already have?

Also, his daughter's elementary school sent home literature with the students informing the parents that they supported John Kerry and if the parents supported 'education' they would vote for John Kerry.

Now, since when has it become okay to use the tax funded school system for free political campaigning? Why is this okay? I can just imagine the furor that would erupt if the political statement was for something like abortion.

It's fine for the teachers PAC to campaign separately and using their own PAC funds but not on the taxpayer supported school premises. Children should never be used as pawns like that.

If literature came home with your brother's children, tell him to file a written complaint with the school board, the superintendent of schools, the city attorney and the attorney general of the state of Illinois alleging the teacher, whom he should name, violated the law by using public funds for partisan political purposes and demand she be indicted for doing so. One or two indictments and the problem will disappear for a while. (I know because when I was in the third grade, my father became quite upset when I brought home some political literature. He wrote the letters. The teacher was indicted, convicted and fined and sentenced to 90 days in jail. She had a really great summer that year.)

Good advice. I'll also have him contact the Illinois Leader. I usually don't put any stock in the willingness of print news to be 'fair' since I live in Ky and the Courier Journal is as left as the NYT but maybe the Illinois Leader is different (after all, at least one person there reads Free Republic!)

This is ridiculous. I live in Illinois. I can't believe they're concentrating on communities north of Rockford. They must be desperate. Please have your brother contact the the Illinois RNC http://www.ilgop.org/contact/ and the Illinois Leader (website link already listed above). Also, it'd be good if he contacted the RNC, too: http://www.gop.com/ContactUs/Default.aspx

Well, with George Ryan et al, it does seem like IL has had its share of idiots recently, doesn't it?

I lived in Rockford in 1977 and Belvedere used to be south of Rockford. Which one moved?

Actually, Belvidere is EAST of Rockford (a bit closer to Chicago). Illinois does not have formal party registration, you do declare a party when you vote in a primary, and that's about it.

Belvidere should go for Bush easily. If you go by lawn signs, Keyes should clobber Obama, but unfortunately between Chicago, and backstabbing from the Bar Topinka wing of the party, Keyes won't get a great shot at it.

New Jersey, Illinois, Connecticut and Maine have to purge those effete Olympia Snowe/Lowell Weicker style Republicans, or the Congress will never get any decent judges through.

Whoops. I got turned around. I might be confusing Belvedere with where he lived before he bought the house in Belvedere. When he picked me up from the Rockford airport last time I went (I jumpseated in on a UPS flight) it 'felt' like we were going north to get to his house. My sense of direction is terrible. Sorry

Could this be some pre-planted "proof" the socialsts are providing for when they contest Bush's win after the election? The fact that such things went to Republicans would only make them look fair.

Does this sound paranoid?

Is this for real, can anyone verify please? If this is true IT IS MIND BOGGLING. I have never ever heard or seen such blatant rubbish. NEVER!

I am trying to get a hold of him to get the 'specific proof' but he works pretty late (and it's a long drive home). As soon as I do, I will post it. I don't think he has a scanner but if he does I'll try to get a copy from him to post.

Illinois is not a swing state. Nonetheless, this year it is important to give President Bush a solid majority of the vote so that his legitimacy cannot be questioned. The libs want to question the legitimacy, and they "bother" because politics is there whole life ... and they think globally and act locally, as they like to say.

I have voted Constitution Party in the past, but the tactics of the left convinces me to vote for Bush in a way that Bush by himself never could.
