SEASON PREMIERE
Wednesday, October 20, 9:30PM ET/PT
CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE stars Emmy Award nominee John Goodman in a comedy about a family man who, by default, is the go-to guy for his eccentric extended clan. John (Goodman) and Kate Barnett (Jean Smart) are still very much in love after 20 years of marriage and are looking forward to the next 20. Only one thing interrupts their bliss: John's family. His sex-obsessed father, Art (Ed Asner), and his loopy mother, Marge (Olympia Dukakis), have a penchant for coming over unannounced, ready to stir the pot. The owner of a security company, John has just hired his gleefully oblivious brother, Tommy (Diedrich Bader), who is having trouble wrapping his mind around the concept of office hours. John's sister, Lily (Melinda McGraw), is a therapist who is her own best patient. If all that is not enough, their 12-year-old son, Miles (Spencer Breslin), has the makings of a perfectly nutty third-generation Barnett. As the family patriarch, John, with Kate's help, fights an uphill battle to keep the peace while his oddball family spins around him.
No, no, no, just a joke about CBS. They use forgeries and other lies in their news stories, y'know.
The PC Rules for Hollywood demand that each series must have an Old Coot. Either wisened and benevolent. Or addled and angry. Like Peter Boyle and Ed Asner.
Since Asner has never been able to act his way out of a wet paper sack. I haven't seen him since 'The mary Tyler Moore Show'.
I just feel sorry for John Goodman. He's so much better than this meager offering.
Jack.
Hijinks ensue when Assner and Rather are caught in the shower together!
Here's where the flags go up. "Sex-obsessed"? Buzz words for tasteless "jokes", and even more tasteless innuendos.
"...sitting on a park bench...eyeing little girls with bad intent...Hey, Aqualung..."
good one!
LOL, that was my first thought. I thought he was dead.
Yawn! Where is the channel clicker? Oh yes! Forgot! That is my husband's toy. To watch what I want, have to retreat to our bedroom. There will be no Asners, Sarandons, Sheens, Streisands, Baldwins,Dixie Chicks, etc. showing on any tv in our home.
vaudine
Dean Martin was not in Eldorado. John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan were the stars.
I give it 6 weeks.
Sounds painfully boring.
Is that a picture of an emu with a hat on?
Well, I hope his character is a compulsive masturbator obsessed with gay midget oil wrestling. Because that would be just too disturbing....
I know and I will be boycotting it despite my affection for John Goodman.
Amen! ... As if we'd have watched Edward A-hole and Olympia on any other network.
Will the notworks ever tire of locker-room double entendres and sophomoric bedroom romps? Find out on this week's episode of The Drivel Chronicles.
Actually, the whole thing about a live-in elderly person who says whatever's on his/her mind started with the Golden Girls.
Just turn down the sound and look at Jean Smart...
