last week's vice-presidential debate, in which the comments of Democrat John Edwards especially had a deja vu quality; the same words were heard from John Kerry five days earlier.
A current inflammatory piece of gossip is the insinuation by Democrats that President Bush will restore the military draft if he is re-elected. The gossip was gaining steadier legs every day, mostly through the Internet, prompting concerned Republicans to bury it deep once and for all. A bill languishing from last year was called up in the House and dispatched on a 402-2 vote.
"We're going to put a nail in that coffin," said House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Speaking to Iowa voters the other day, President Bush vowed, "We will not have a draft so long as I'm the president of the United States."
Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, called draft talk "the hoax of the year."
A news report depicted Demo-crats as being "outraged" at DeLay's tactic, accusing him of a "cynical political ploy," Said Democratic Rep. Charles R. Rangel of New York, "It is a prostitution of the legislative process to take a serious issue and use it for political purposes on the eve of the election just to say they are against the draft." This is Rangel at his most disingenuous self.
Rep. Rangel was the author of the bill reinstituting the draft. But he voted against it. A flip-flop? Or was he trying to pull some political shenanigans himself? Certainly while Mr. Rangel's bill was pending in the House hopper, the specter of a draft persisted, especially when Rangel's fellow Democrats, Max Cleland and Howard Dean, traversed the nation flatly accusing President Bush of having a "secret plan" to restore the draft.
Who is being dishonest here, Rep. Rangel? Who is prostituting not just the legislative process but a presidential election as well?
Charlie Rangle is another elected official that I just don't understand how he keeps being reelected. Are the people he represents that damn dumb?

Why they are so after this guy. Bringing this up for a vote was just the thing to do.
Rangel should be forced to repay whatever it costs to propose and support this wasted bill. I have a feeling it isn't free and it isn't cheap. At the very least it deserves some scrutiny.

Rangel is living proof that democrats vote in a fraudulent manner. Nobody of his stature would be elected otherwise.
Charlie Rangle treats his constituents like the stupidest people in America, and they consistently prove him right.
That's why the Democratic Party selected him to introduce this sham bill.
Any self-respecting voter would toss out a guy who votes against his own bill, realizing that he is merely a dopey political hack.
If you ever want to know what democrats are guilty of, just look at what they falsely accuse republicans of, then multiply by 10.
Rangel has a very safe seat. In the last election he got 84,367 votes, his Republican challenger 11,008. Some elections it is even more lopsided.
This year his Republican opponent has a Muslim alias. Hope that doesn't confuse anybody.
They are after him because the vote exposed them. And yes, the vote needed to happen.
Most of the Black Congressional Caucus members are elected in districts gerrymandered to get them elected and keep them elected. Not one of them can make it in a district that isnt totally controlled by the black bloc.
Remember Democrats want to draft your child.
They think because Charlie is black, he will represent them better in their district. I would not be concerned about the race, only that he or she would represent all people in a fair an impartial manner. Take JC Watts, a great role model for any child or person, regardless of race, denomination and or creed.
